Encyclopedia
An encyclopedia (American English) or encyclopædia (British English) is a reference work or compendium providing summaries of knowledge either general or special to a particular field or discipline. Encyclopedias are divided into articles or entries that are arranged alphabetically by article name or by thematic categories, or else are hyperlinked and searchable. Encyclopedia entries are longer and more detailed than those in most dictionaries. Winkler Prins
The ''Winkler Prins'' is a Dutch-language encyclopedia, founded by the Dutch poet and clergyman Anthony Winkler Prins (1817–1908) and published by Elsevier. It has run through nine printed editions; the first, issued in 16 volumes from 1870 to 1882, and the last (the final in book form), numbering 26 volumes, from 1990 to 1993. ''Winkler Prins'' has been the most distinguished printed encyclopedia in the Dutch language. Oosthoek (encyclopedia)
The ''Oosthoek'' is a Dutch encyclopedia, published by Oosthoek's Uitgevers Mij. N.V. in Utrecht, which was founded in 1907 by A. Oosthoek (1876–1949) and which merged with Kluwer in 1970. The encyclopedia is a continuation of '' Vivat's Geïllustreerde Encyclopedie'' (11 vols., Amsterdam, 1899–1908), bought by Oosthoek and it appeared from 1916 as ''Oosthoek's Geïllustreerde Encyclopaedie''. Christelijke Encyclopedie
The is a publication by the company J.H. Kok from Kampen, the Netherlands. The first edition appeared in five volumes from 1926 to 1929 with a supplement in 1931, under the redaction of the reformed theologian Frederik Willem Grosheide (1881–1972, father of the later secretary of state Hans Grosheide.) A second edition, in six volumes, followed from 1956 to 1961. Both editions are reference works for the Dutch Reformed Church. In 2005 a third edition appeared in three volumes under the same title, but the word ''Christian'' is treated from an ecumenical perspective. The ''Eerste Nederlandse Systematisch Ingerichte Encyclopaedie'' (abbr. E.N.S.I.E., "First Dutch Systematically Arranged Encyclopaedia"), is a Dutch language encyclopaedia in ten volumes of which the first volume appeared in 1946 and the last part, the alphabetical lexicon, in 1952. ''De Standaard'' (meaning ''The Standard'' in English) is a Flemish daily newspaper published in Belgium by Mediahuis (formerly Corelio and VUM). It was traditionally a Christian-Democratic paper, associated with the Christian-Democratic and Flemish Party, and in opposition to the Socialist Flemish daily ''De Morgen''. Grote Nederlandse Larousse Encyclopedie
The ''Grote Nederlandse Larousse Encyclopedie'' (abbr. GNLE) is a Dutch-language encyclopaedia based on the French '' Grand Larousse encyclopédique'', which appeared from 1971 to 1979 in 25 volumes. The project of publisher Heideland-Orbis ( Hasselt) was larger in scope than its example, as well as the then existent Dutch encyclopaedias ''Winkler Prins'' and '' Oosthoek''. Due to the cooperation with the publisher of the Larousse they could appeal to the extensive know-how of the French encyclopaedia and supplement it with the help from Dutch and Belgian experts. The encyclopaedia contains 500,000 lemmas, 1066 categories grouped in 20 disciplines, 8000 literary quotations, 52,000 illustrations, 1200 geographical and thematic maps and 40 000 citations. Grote Spectrum Encyclopedie
The ''Grote Spectrum Encyclopedie'' ("Great Spectrum Encyclopedia") (published by Het Spectrum, Utrecht between 1974 and 1980) is a Dutch encyclopedia which treats subjects in 5000 large and comprehensive articles (like the ''Encyclopædia Britannica'') with a clear accent on the social sciences. Description Encyclopedia contains about 5000 large detailed articles on various topics with an emphasis on social sciences. All illustrations and design are colored, which is new for this kind of encyclopedias, published in the Netherlands. The editor-in-chief of the encyclopaedia in 1972-1974 was Inez van Eyck, who in 1971-1972 also was preparing articles for the publication.
