Dushantha Lakshman Rodrigo
Dushantha Lakshman Rodrigo (born 5 October 1968) is the 16th and current Anglican Bishop of Colombo. Early life Dushantha Lakshman Rodrigo was born in Trincomalee on 5 October 1968, the son of Arthur William Rodrigo and Ruth Adlene De Alwis, his parents married at the Jaffna Methodist Church in 1960. His father, Arthur, served in the Sri Lankan Navy. Education Rodrigo received his primary and secondary education at S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia. He later joined the Theological College of Lanka. He holds a PgD in Counselling and Psychosocial Support from the University of Colombo, and an MA in Development Studies from the Open University of Sri Lanka. Ministry Rodrigo also served as a chaplain at several schools, such as; S. Thomas' College, Gurutalawa 1995 - 1999, Bishop's College, Colombo 2008 - 2011, S. A bishop is an ordained clergy member who is entrusted with a position of authority and oversight in a religious institution. St Michael and All Angels Church, Polwatte ( si, කොල්ලුපිටිය ගල් පල්ලිය) is located in Kollupitiya, a suburb of Colombo, Sri Lanka. History In 1844 Rev. Solomon David from Kotahena began holding regular services in a house in the area. In 1853 the first chapel in Polwatte, located near the present junction of Hudson’s Road and Mohandiram’s Lane, was dedicated to St. Thomas by Bishop James Chapman. The chapel was essentially a small building with a cadjan roof and half walls. The chapel was accidentally burnt down in 1864, when fireworks as part of the chapel's anniversary celebrations went awry. A new chapel was the constructed on the present site was erected in 1865. Two years later it was enlarged and dedicated to St. Thomas on his feast day, 21 December 1867 by Bishop Piers Claughton. Holy Trinity Church is an Anglican church in Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka. History On 5 May 1845, a committee comprising Reverend Hermann Randall von Dadelszen, Colonel James Campbell, Colonel William Henry Slade (Royal Engineers), Captain Nelson (Royal Engineers), Lieutenant Albert Watson (Ceylon Rifle Regiment), Mr E. R. Power (Ceylon Civil Service), Mr H. C. Selby, Mr C. Temple and Mr E. F. Gepp met to discuss the construction of a church in Nuwara Eliya, at an estimated cost of £900. Captain Nelson designed the building with the construction work done chiefly by the officers and men of the local garrison of the 15th Regiment, under the supervision of Major James Brunker. It took seven years after building commenced for the church to be completed. Upon its completion it was consecrated by Bishop James Chapman on 24 February 1852 ( St. Matthias’ Day).
