''Dung 4'' is a demo album by the British indie rock band Inspiral Carpets. It was first released in May 1989 on Inspiral Carpets' own Cow Records and only on cassette. The name refers to the catalogue number. In 2014, it was announced that ''Dung 4'' would be re-released on vinyl and CD on Cherry Red Records on 19 and 28 April respectively, with the contents of Inspiral Carpets' earlier demo EP ''Cow'', as bonus tracks. On the LP version, ''Cow'' was included as a bonus 7-inch EP, while on the CD its tracks were appended to the end of the ''Dung 4'' program. A second vinyl reissue of ''Dung 4'' was released on the Tiger Bay label in Europe, containing the entire contents of both demos on a single album. Inspiral Carpets
Inspiral Carpets are an English rock band, part of the late-1980s/early-1990s Madchester movement. Formed in Oldham in 1980, the band's most successful lineup featured frontman Tom Hingley, drummer Craig Gill, guitarist Graham Lambert, bassist Martyn Walsh and keyboardist Clint Boon. Several line-ups were loosely used from 1980 until Lambert and singer Stephen Holt met at The Moor End indie disco in Oldham 1983. Holt sang on the first two independent singles. Holt departed the band before they signed with Mute Records,Thompson, Dave (2000) ''Alternative Rock'', Miller Freeman, , p.425-427 Inspiral Carpets was known for using organs and distorted guitars with influences from psychedelic rock. Madchester
Madchester was a musical and cultural scene that developed in the English city of Manchester in the late 1980s, closely associated with the indie dance scene. Indie-dance (sometimes referred to as indie-rave) saw artists merging indie music with elements of acid house, psychedelia and 1960s pop. The term Madchester was coined by Factory Records' Tony Wilson, with the label popularised by the British music press in the early 1990s, and its most famous groups include the Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets, the Charlatans, James and 808 State. It is widely seen as being heavily influenced by drugs, especially MDMA. Cherry Red Records is a British independent record label founded in Malvern, Worcestershire by Iain McNay in 1978. The label has released recordings by Dead Kennedys, Everything But the Girl, The Monochrome Set, and Felt, among others, as well as the compilation album ''Pillows & Prayers''. In addition to releasing new music, Cherry Red also acts as an umbrella for individual imprints and catalogue specialists. Cherry Red was listed by ''Music Week'' as one of the UK's top ten record companies in Q1 2015 for sales of artist albums. ''Cow'' is a demo EP by the British rock group Inspiral Carpets. It was released in 1987. It was reissued on 7-inch EP in 2014. The EP was included with the ''Dung 4'' vinyl reissue. The tracks were also released on the CD version of ''Dung 4''. Track list # Head for the Sun # Now You're Gone # Whiskey # Love Can Never Lose Its Own "Head for the Sun" was re-recorded and released as a B-side to the " You're So Good for Me" single in 2012 and will also appear on their 2014 album ''Inspiral Carpets''. Life (Inspiral Carpets Album)
''Life'' is the first studio album by the British indie rock band Inspiral Carpets. It was released on 23 April 1990 by Cow Records, through Mute Records, during the period dubbed Madchester by the British media. The group released three singles from this album: "Move", "This Is How It Feels" and "She Comes in the Fall", with the latter two in different versions from those found on the album. It was reissued in 2013 with the ''PlaneCrash'' and ''TrainSurfing'' EPs and an unreleased John Peel session as bonus tracks, plus the ''21790'' live video on a bonus DVD. The 2013 reissue is based on the original UK CD release. A slightly modified version of ''Life'' was released in North America. It dropped the track "Besides Me" and added "Commercial Rain" (a re-recorded version of a B-side to the "Joe" single) and three tracks from their then-forthcoming '' Island Head'' EP. Clint Boon
Clinton David Boon (born 28 June 1959) is an English musician, DJ and radio presenter. Boon originally rose to fame as the keyboard player (and sometimes vocalist) of Inspiral Carpets. Music career Born in Oldham, Lancashire, Boon joined the Inspiral Carpets in 1986 after previously playing in a band called The Mill. After the Inspiral Carpets split in 1995, Boon went on to form The Clint Boon Experience releasing two albums under this name – ''The Compact Guide to Pop Music and Space Travel'' (1999), and ''Life in Transition'' (2000). In this year the band released the single "Do What You Do (Earworm Song)", which featured Fran Healy, the lead singer of the band Travis. Boon has his own record label, 'Booney Tunes', signing artists such as Elaine Palmer, and has also been a regular DJ at a number of nightclubs around England, and in Wrexham, North Wales.
