Duncan Station
The Duncan station in Duncan, British Columbia was a stop on Via Rail's ''Dayliner'' service, which has been indefinitely suspended since 2011. It is located on the Southern Railway of Vancouver Island mainline. History The current station building was built in 1912 by the Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway, replacing the original station which extended somewhat further south. "Duncan's Crossing Station" was established at Duncan's Crossing, named after William Chalmers Duncan, who farmed in the region. On March 4, 1912 the City of Duncan was incorporated. The station was designated a Heritage Railway Stations in 1993. Closing Duncan Station closed on March 19, 2011, when Via Rail suspended service indefinitely due to poor track conditions and was replaced with a bus service operated by Via Rail. Duncan, British Columbia
Duncan (pop. 5,047 in 2021) is a city on southern Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. It is the smallest city by area (2.07 square kilometres, 0.8 square miles) in Canada. It was incorporated in 1912. Location The city is about 45 kilometres from both Victoria to the south and Nanaimo to the north. Although the City of Duncan has a population of just over 5,000, it serves the Cowichan Valley which has a population of approximately 84,000, many of whom live in North Cowichan and Cowichan Tribes. This gives Duncan a much larger perceived "greater" population than that contained within the city limits. The Victoria–Courtenay train (named the ''Malahat'' until 2009) was a passenger train service operated by Via Rail between Victoria, Nanaimo, and Courtenay on Vancouver Island in British Columbia.
