Draughts
Checkers (American English), also known as draughts (; British English), is a group of strategy board games for two players which involve diagonal moves of uniform game pieces and mandatory captures by jumping over opponent pieces. Checkers is developed from alquerque. The term "checkers" derives from the checkered board which the game is played on, whereas "draughts" derives from the verb "to draw" or "to move". The most popular forms of checkers in Anglophone countries are American checkers (also called English draughts), which is played on an 8×8 checkerboard; Russian draughts, Turkish draughts both on an 8x8 board, and International draughts, played on a 10×10 board – the latter is widely played in many countries worldwide. Draughts World Championship
The Draughts World Championship is the world championship in international draughts and is held every two years. In the even year following the tournament, the World Title match takes place. The men's championship began in 1885 in France and since 1948 it's organised by the World Draughts Federation (FMJD). The men's championship has had winners from the Netherlands, Canada, the Soviet Union, Senegal, Latvia, and Russia. The current men's champion is Roel Boomstra. Since 1998, there is also a Draughts World Championship held with the blitz time control (5 minutes plus an increment of 5 seconds per move), and since 2014 also with the rapid time control (15 min + 5 sec per move). World title match The championship is held every two years, in the odd years. The world title match takes place in the even year following the world championship tournament. 2013 World Draughts Championship
The 2013 World Draughts Championship was an international draughts tournament held in Ufa, Russia. 40 players from 24 countries who qualified through the championships of Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America competed in the tournament, which began on June 2, 2013 and ended on June 20, 2013. Among them was women's Draughts World Champion Zoja Golubeva from Latvia. Alexander Georgiev (Russia) became the World Champion. Jean Marc Ndjofang ( Camerun) took second place, and Roel Boomstra (Netherlands) took third place. Competition In the first stage 40 participants played in four groups named after the well-known world champions Andris Andreiko, Baba Sy, Iser Kuperman, and Marcel Deslauriers round-robin tournament. 2015 World Draughts Championship
The 2015 World Draughts Championship at the international draughts was held November 8–24, 2015 at Emmen, Netherlands International Draughts Federation FMJD. Twenty players were competing in the tournament. It was played as a round-robin, with 19 rounds in total, each of which be micro-match from two games. The winning prize for the tournament was 25,000 euros. Alexander Georgiev became World Draughts Champion in nine times. Participants The participants are nominated according to a schema and rules accepted by the FMJD General Assembly: Rules and regulations The games were played in the official FMJD time rate of the Fischer system with 1 hour and 20 minutes for the game plus 1 minute per move. Conforming to the FMJD regulations players are not allowed to agree on a draw before they both made 40 moves. If they do so nevertheless, the referee is obliged to decide on a 0-point each players. 2017 World Draughts Championship
The 2017 World Draughts Championship at the international draughts held in Tallinn, Estonia. 79 players, who qualified through the championships of Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America competed in the tournament, which ran from October 1, 2017, to October 16, 2017. Among them was women's grandmaster Matrena Nogovitsyna from Russia. Three round played in hotel Europe, other in Paul Keres Chess House. The winning prize for the tournament is 30,000 euros. The tournament will be supervised by main referee Andriy Shcherbatyuk (Ukraine). At the same time the 2017 Women's World Draughts Championship was held.
