2013 World Draughts Championship
The 2013 World Draughts Championship was an international draughts tournament held in Ufa, Russia. 40 players from 24 countries who qualified through the championships of Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America competed in the tournament, which began on June 2, 2013 and ended on June 20, 2013. Among them was women's Draughts World Champion Zoja Golubeva from Latvia. Alexander Georgiev (Russia) became the World Champion. Jean Marc Ndjofang ( Camerun) took second place, and Roel Boomstra (Netherlands) took third place. Competition In the first stage 40 participants played in four groups named after the well-known world champions Andris Andreiko, Baba Sy, Iser Kuperman, and Marcel Deslauriers round-robin tournament. International Draughts
International draughts (also called international checkers or Polish draughts) is a Abstract strategy, strategy board game for two players, one of the variants of draughts. The gameboard comprises 10×10 squares in alternating dark and light colours, of which only the 50 dark squares are used. Each player has 20 pieces, light for one player and dark for the other, at opposite sides of the board. In conventional diagrams, the board is displayed with the light pieces at the bottom; in this orientation, the lower-left corner square must be dark. The Draughts World Championship in international draughts is the world championship, which began in 1885 in France; since 1948, it has been organized by the World Draughts Federation (FMJD). The men's championship has had winners from the Netherlands, Canada, the Soviet Union, Senegal, Latvia, and Russia. The championship occurs every two years. Since 1984, a World Title match takes place on every second world championship. World Draughts Federation
The Fédération Mondiale du Jeu de Dames (FMJD, World Draughts Federation) is the international body uniting national draughts federations. It was founded in 1947 by four Federations: France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland. Members Currently, the FMJD has more than 70 national federation members in 2021. Recently the FMJD has become a member of the Global Association of International Sports Federations and strives for Olympic recognition. Guntis Valneris (born in Riga) is a Latvian draughts player. He was the 1994 World champion in international draughts, a two-time European champion (1992, 2008), two-time World champion in fast draughts (1999, 2007), three-time Junior World champion (1984–1986), and multiple-time Latvian national champion. Career highlights Guntis Valneris started playing draughts when he was 10 years old. Viktor Adamovich became his first coach.
