Duke Kimbrough McCall
Duke Kimbrough McCall (September 1, 1914April 2, 2013) was an American Christian religious leader who served as Chief Executive Officer of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) Executive Committee, as president of two theological seminaries, as president of the Baptist World Alliance, and as a Baptist pastor. Childhood, college and marriage Born in Meridian, Mississippi, McCall grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, one of five children of John W. McCall, an attorney and judge, and Lizette Kimbrough McCall, a leader in Southern Baptist mission support. McCall attended Furman University, Greenville, South Carolina, from which he graduated summa cum laude as valedictorian in 1935. While attending Furman, McCall met Greenville resident Marguerite Mullinnix. Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond (BTSR) was a free-standing seminary in Richmond, Virginia. It was founded in March 1989 by Virginia Baptists related to the Southern Baptist Alliance (now the Alliance of Baptists) and Baptist General Association of Virginia. In the late 1980s, as the situation began to change in Southern Baptist Convention during the conservative resurgence/fundamentalist takeover, others in the region joined them in seeing the need for alternative options for theological education among Baptists. Cooperative Baptist Fellowship
The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF) is a Baptist Christian denomination in the United States. It is affiliated with the Baptist World Alliance. The headquarters is in Decatur, Georgia. History The Cooperative Baptist Association has its origins in a meeting in Atlanta in 1990 of a group of moderate churches of the Southern Baptist Convention at odds with the denomination for its conservatism on issues such as opposition to the ordination of women. It was officially founded in 1991. As of 1996, the association had 1,400 churches and was still affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. In 1998, it began ordaining chaplains. In 2002, it officially left the Southern Baptist Convention and became a member of the Baptist World Alliance.
