Dugald, Manitoba
Dugald is a community in Manitoba, Canada, located 22 kilometres east of Winnipeg at the junction of PTH 15 and Provincial Road 206 in the Rural Municipality of Springfield. It was the site of a railway accident in 1947. In the Dugald train disaster of September 1947, a Canadian National Railway passenger train consisting of older wooden-bodied passenger cars collided with a transcontinental passenger train made up of newer steel cars, resulting in severe damage and fatalities on the older train. This accident led to the retirement of the less crashworthy wooden cars. Dugald was also the home to the Costume Museum, a museum dedicated to Canadian fashion. The museum relocated to downtown Winnipeg in 2006. Dugald is the birthplace of former National Hockey League goaltender Trevor Kidd, who played in 387 regular season games for four teams. Dugald Campbell
Dugald Campbell was a Scottish doctor from the Isle of Arran who went to Hawaii and set up the national health service during the 1890s. Campbell travelled extensively and in Hawaii he took up the post of government physician on the islands, where he set about raising cash for a hospital that would treat all islanders for free. Dugald Christie (1941 – July 31, 2006) was a Canadian lawyer and political activist. He was based in the city of Vancouver, British Columbia. He was the grandson of Dr Dugald Christie (Christie of Mukden), a Scottish Presbyterian missionary doctor who founded the Mukden Medical College in Shenyang, China. Life Dugald Christie finished a Bachelor of Science at McGill University in Montreal Quebec with the intentions of entering medical school following the footsteps of his father and grandfather, but after careful examination of his aptitudes instead enrolled as a law school student at The School of Law of Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia. Christie began his political activities in 1991 when he began to offer free legal service to low-income people in Vancouver. Dugald Drummond
Dugald Drummond (1 January 1840 – 8 November 1912) was a Scottish steam locomotive engineer. He had a career with the North British Railway, LB&SCR, Caledonian Railway and London and South Western Railway. He was the older brother of the engineer Peter Drummond, who often followed Dugald's ideas in his own work. He was a major locomotive designer and builder and many of his London and South Western Railway engines continued in main line service with the Southern Railway to enter British Railways service in 1947. Career Drummond was born in Ardrossan, Ayrshire on 1 January 1840. His father was permanent way inspector for the Bowling Railway. Drummond was apprenticed to Forest & Barr of Glasgow gaining further experience on the Dumbartonshire and Caledonian Railways. Captain Dugald Malcolm, CMG CVO TD (22 December 1917 – 16 February 2000) was a British diplomat, Her Britannic Majesty's Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to the Holy See 1975-1977. Malcolm was born in 1917, the son of Major-General Sir Neill Malcolm, and educated at Eton College and New College, Oxford. After serving in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in the Second World War, he joined the Foreign Office in 1945. He was Her Majesty's Vice-Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps 1957-1965, then Ambassador to Luxembourg 1966-1970, and Ambassador to Panama 1971-1974. Dugald "Doug" McGregor (1890-1948) was a pioneering rugby league footballer who played in the 1900s and 1910s from Queensland. An Australia national representative , he also played for both the Queensland and New South Wales teams. Playing career McGregor played in Brisbane for the Fortitude Valley club. During the 1909 New Zealand rugby league tour of Australia, when the Kiwis traveled to Brisbane for a Test match against Australia, McGregor was selected to play at fullback, becoming Kanagroo No. 46. In doing so he also set the record for the youngest player for Australia at 19 years and 5 days. When the New Zealand Māori rugby league team toured that year, McGregor played at fullback against them for Queensland as well as Australia. Sir Dugald Clerk (sometimes written as Dugald Clark) KBE, LLD FRS (1854, Glasgow – 1932, Ewhurst, Surrey) was a Scottish engineer who designed the world's first successful two-stroke engine in 1878 and patented it in England in 1881. He was a graduate of Anderson's University in Glasgow (now the University of Strathclyde), and Yorkshire College, Leeds (now the University of Leeds). He formed the intellectual property firm with George Croydon Marks, called Marks & Clerk. He was knighted on 24 August 1917. Dugald Patterson McDougall Semple (7 February 1884 – 19 January 1964) was a Scottish advocate of simple living and animal welfare, naturalist, prolific author, and fruitarian. He is sometimes credited with co-founding the vegan movement in 1944 (with Dorothy and Donald Watson and other friends) without using the term "vegan". Biography Semple's mother hailed from a farm near Beith, and his father worked as a tailor. He was born in Johnstone near Paisley, Scotland. Dugald won a bursary to Paisley Grammar School and served an apprenticeship as an engineering draughtsman. In 1907, he moved into a tent, and later an old omnibus located on Linwood Moss. Dugald Stewart (; 22 November 175311 June 1828) was a Scottish philosopher and mathematician. Today regarded as one of the most important figures of the later Scottish Enlightenment, he was renowned as a populariser of the work of Francis Hutcheson and Adam Smith. His lectures at the University of Edinburgh were widely disseminated by his many influential students. In 1783 he was a joint founder of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. In most contemporary documents he is referred to as Prof Dougal Stewart. Dugald Sutherland MacColl (10 March 1859 – 21 December 1948) was a Scottish watercolour painter, art critic, lecturer and writer. He was keeper of the Tate Gallery for five years. Life MacColl was born in Glasgow and educated at the University of London and the University of Oxford between 1876 and 1884. He also studied at the Westminster School of Art and the Slade School under Alphonse Legros between 1884 and 1892. Although an accomplished watercolourist, he is best remembered as a writer and lecturer on art. Clinton Dugald MacDougall (June 14, 1839 – May 24, 1914) was a United States representative from New York. Life and career Born near Glasgow, Scotland, he immigrated to Canada in 1842 with his parents, who later settled in Auburn, New York. He pursued an academic course, studied law, and engaged in banking from 1856 to 1869. He was commissioned captain in the 75th New York Volunteer Infantry on September 16, 1861; lieutenant colonel of the 111th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment, August 20, 1862; colonel January 3, 1863; and brevet brigadier general of Volunteers February 25, 1865. He was honorably mustered out on June 4, 1865. In 1869 he was appointed postmaster of Auburn. MacDougall was elected as a Republican to the Forty-third and Forty-fourth Congresses, holding office from March 4, 1873 to March 3, 1877. Dubgall Mac Somairle
Dubgall mac Somairle (died 1175) was an apparent King of the Isles. He was a son of Somairle mac Gilla Brigte and Ragnhildr Óláfsdóttir. Dubgall was a leading figure of Clann Somairle, and the eponymous ancestor of Clann Dubgaill. Dubgall's career is obscure, and little is certain of his life. In 1155 or 1156, Dubgall was produced as a candidate to the kingship of the Isles, then-possessed by his maternal uncle, Guðrøðr Óláfsson. Later that year, Somairle defeated Guðrøðr, and the kingdom was divided between them. Two years later, Somairle again defeated Guðrøðr, and assumed control over the entirety of the realm. Whilst is possible that Dubgall was the nominal King of the Isles, it is apparent that his father possessed the real power. Dubgall's father died in an invasion of Scotland in 1164.
