Hubei Province
Hubei (; ; alternately Hupeh) is a landlocked province of the People's Republic of China, and is part of the Central China region. The name of the province means "north of the lake", referring to its position north of Dongting Lake. Shaanxi Province
Shaanxi (alternatively Shensi, see § Name) is a landlocked province of China. Officially part of Northwest China, it borders the province-level divisions of Shanxi (NE, E), Henan (E), Hubei (SE), Chongqing (S), Sichuan (SW), Gansu (W), Ningxia (NW) and Inner Mongolia (N). Han River (Shaanxi And Hubei)
The Han River, also known by its Chinese names Hanshui and Han Jiang, is a left tributary of the Yangtze in central China. It has a length of and is the longest tributary of the Yangtze system. The river gave its name to the Han dynasty and, through it, to the Han Chinese, the dominant ethnicity in China and the most populous ethnic group in the world. Pankou Dam
The Pankou Dam is a concrete-face rock-fill dam on the Du River about southwest of Shiyan in Zhushan County of Hubei Province, China. The purpose of the dam is hydroelectric power production and flood control. It supports a 513 MW power station located at its base. At a normal reservoir elevation of , the reservoir withholds of water. However, it can hold up to in the event of a flood. Construction on the dam began in May 2008 and its generators were commissioned in 2012. Huanglongtan Dam
The Huanglongtan Dam is a concrete gravity dam located on the Du River, a tributary of the Han River. It is located west of Shiyan in Hubei Province, China. The main purpose of the dam is hydroelectric power generation but it also provides for flood control. It was constructed between 1969 and 1976 and support a 510 MW power station. Background The Huanglongtan Dam and two other projects on the river ( Songshuling and Pankou Dams) were surveyed in 1954 and final designs were prepared in 1964. Construction on Huanglongtan, the first of the projects to be implemented, began in April 1969. The original 85 MW generators were commissioned in 1974 and the dam was complete in 1976. The entire project was accepted by the state in 1978. In 1980, the dam experienced a 50-year flood with river flow peaking at .
