Droid (band)
Droid (sometimes typeset as -D-R-O-I-D- or DROID as to fit their official logo) was an American groove metal band from Long Beach, California, formerly signed to Korn member James "Munky" Shaffer's record label Emotional Syphon Records. History Droid was signed to Emotional Syphon Records after Korn guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer saw them perform at the world-renowned Whisky a Go Go in Los Angeles. The band accompanied Korn and Limp Bizkit on their 2003 Back 2 Basics Tour, as well as the 2006 and 2007 installments of the Family Values Tour. Headbangers Ball
''Headbangers Ball'' is a music television program that consisted of heavy metal music videos airing on MTV and its global affiliates. The show began on MTV on April 18, 1987, playing heavy metal music videos from both well-known and more obscure artists. The show offered (and became famous because of) a stark contrast to Top 40 music videos shown during the day. However, with the mainstream rise of alternative rock, grunge, pop punk and rap music in the 1990s, the relevance of ''Headbangers Ball'' came into question, and the show was ultimately canceled in 1995. Over eight years later, as new genres of heavy metal were gaining a commercial foothold and fan interest became unavoidable, the program was reintroduced on MTV2. It had remained in varying degrees on the network's website, but by the early 2020s, it was no longer shown on television. MTV2 (formerly M2) is an American pay television Cable television, channel owned by the Paramount Media Networks division of Paramount Global. The channel launched initially as an all-music video service, once the original MTV had started to shift its programming. As with its parent network, MTV2's focus on music programming would gradually be downplayed during the 2000s. By 2011, MTV2 would primarily target young adult men with original and acquired lifestyle and reality programming, reruns of male-targeting shows from MTV, acquired sitcoms and movies, and a daily block of Hip hop music, hip hop and Rock music, rock genre videos in the early mornings. Fieldy's Dreams
Fieldy's Dreams is a rap project by Korn bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu, active from 2000 to 2002. His first album, the gangsta rap album ''Rock'n Roll Gangster'', was released on January 22, 2002. Most of the lyrics and music were by Fieldy himself, with Polar Bear (of Infinite Mass) helping out with the rest. Fieldy renamed his project Fieldy's Nightmare and was due to release a 2008 album, ''Sobriety'', but recording was put on hold to focus on work with Korn. Fieldy said that the new album would not be gangsta rap but a bass instrumental album with a funk/jazz fusion. Reginald Arvizu
Reginald Quincy Arvizu (born November 2, 1969), also known as "Fieldy", is an American musician, best known as the bassist for nu metal band Korn. He is also the guitarist/bassist for rock band StillWell. Musical career Prior to Arvizu's time in Korn, he and Brian Welch, who would later become one of Korn's two guitarists (alongside James Shaffer), had played together in a number of bands, having become friends while still at school. Upon their graduation from high school, Arvizu, Welch, Shaffer, and drummer David Silveria relocated from Bakersfield to Los Angeles and Arvizu, Shaffer, and Silveria formed L.A.P.D. (the name first stood for "Love and Peace, Dude", but this abbreviation was later changed to "Laughing As People Die"). Family Values Tour
The Family Values Tour was an annual rock and hip hop tour held by the American nu metal band Korn since 1998. The first tour took place in 1998 and the second tour in 1999, but the tour took a hiatus in 2000 due to heavy competition from the Anger Management Tour, the Summer Sanitarium Tour, and others. The Family Values Tour happened again in 2001 before taking another hiatus, this time for four years. The Family Values Tour returned in 2006 with Korn and Deftones as the headliners. Groove Metal
Groove metal is a subgenre of heavy metal music that began in the early 1990s. The genre achieved success in the 1990s and continued having success in the 2000s. Inspired by thrash metal and traditional heavy metal, groove metal features raspy singing and screaming, down-tuned guitars, heavy guitar riffs, and syncopated rhythms. Unlike thrash metal, groove metal is usually slower and also uses elements of traditional heavy metal. Pantera are often considered the pioneers of groove metal, and groove metal expanded in the 1990s with bands like White Zombie, Machine Head, and Sepultura. The genre continued in the 2000s with bands like Lamb of God, DevilDriver, and Five Finger Death Punch.
