"Dressed to Kill" is the fourteenth episode of the third series of the 1960s cult British spy-fi television series ''The Avengers'', starring Patrick Macnee and Honor Blackman. It originally aired on ABC on 28 December 1963. The episode was directed by Bill Bain and written by Brian Clemens. Plot A false alarm triggers all but one of the nation's nuclear attack early warning systems. Steed and Cathy go undercover to investigate and are invited to a fancy dress party on a train. One of the party guests turns out to be a killer. The plot was reused in a later episode, ''The Superlative Seven''. The Avengers (TV Series)
''The Avengers'' is a British Spy fiction, espionage television series, created in 1961, that ran for 161 episodes until 1969. It initially focused on David Keel (Ian Hendry), aided by John Steed (Patrick Macnee). Hendry left after the first series; Steed then became the main character, partnered with a succession of assistants. His most famous assistants were intelligent, stylish and assertive women: Cathy Gale (Honor Blackman), Emma Peel (Diana Rigg), and Tara King (Linda Thorson). Dresses and suits for the series were made by Pierre Cardin. The series ran from 1961 until 1969, screening as one-hour episodes for its entire run. Francis James "Frank" Maher (18 June 1929 – 13 July 2007) was a British stuntman who was best known for his roles as a stuntman or stunt coordinator in many British television shows including ''Danger Man'' (US: ''Secret Agent'') and ''The Prisoner''; he was frequently the stunt double for the series star Patrick McGoohan. Brian Horace Clemens (30 July 1931 – 10 January 2015) was an English screenwriter and television producer, possibly best known for his work on '' The Avengers'' and '' The Professionals''. Clemens claimed to be related to Mark Twain (Samuel Langhorne Clemens), a fact reflected in the naming of his two sons, Samuel Joshua Twain Clemens and George Langhorne Clemens.
