Dream FM (London)
Dream FM was a London pirate radio station active in the 1990s, that championed happy hardcore music. Dream FM started broadcasting in January 1994 from Battersea, South West London, having briefly been named ''Global FM''. Dream played predominantly happy hardcore and breakbeat hardcore but also jungle and house, during the transitional period where breakbeat music was fragmenting into different genres. In March 1995, Dream moved to 107.6 FM, with the station promoting raves at London venues such as Club Labrynth, Bagley's, Adrenalin Village, and the Gardening Club II. It hosted live outside broadcasts from its events and had phone-ins and on-air games such as ''Beat The Raid''. Breakbeat hardcore (also referred to as hardcore rave or oldskool hardcore) is a music genre of the very early 1990s that spawned from the UK rave scene. It combines four-on-the-floor rhythms with breakbeats usually sampled from hip hop. In addition to the inclusion of breakbeats, the genre also features shuffled drum machine patterns, hoover, and other noises originating from new beat, sounds from acid house and bleep techno, and often upbeat house piano riffs and vocals. Pirate radio in the United Kingdom (UK) has been a popular and enduring radio medium since the 1960s, despite expansions in licensed broadcasting, and the advent of both digital radio and internet radio. Although it peaked throughout the 1960s and again during the 1980s/1990s, it remains in existence today. Battersea
Battersea is a large district in south London, part of the London Borough of Wandsworth, England. It is centred southwest of Charing Cross and extends along the south bank of the River Thames. The Four Aces Club
The Four Aces Club was a pioneering music and recreational space on Dalston Lane in Hackney, London. Based in a building that had formerly been the North London Colosseum and Amphitheatre and then a cinema, in the 1960s and 1970s the club became one of the first venues to play black music in the United Kingdom. It was credited with playing a significant "role in the evolution of reggae into dance music, from ska, to rocksteady, to dub, to lovers, to dancehall and the evolution of jungle."
