Drayang
Drayangs are entertainment bars in Bhutan. They typically serve alcoholic beverages, and have a stage on which entertainers dance to and sing songs solicited from or requested by members of the audience. They also serve traditional Bhutanese and Nepali cuisine. The songs are usually traditional Bhutanese music or from Bollywood. The majority of entertainers are women. As of 2018, there were 49 drayangs in Bhutan, with 14 located in the capital Thimphu. Drayang entertainers are usually paid a basic monthly salary, and are allowed to collect extra money from the audience for requested songs. There is a range of opinions on drayangs in Bhutan. Critics of the venues describe them as shady businesses exploitative of women. Drayang owners deny that they allow abuse, and state that drayangs generate employment for the entertainers, who would otherwise be unemployed because of lack of opportunity and education. Music Of Bhutan
The music of Bhutan is an integral part of its culture and plays a leading role in transmitting social values. Traditional Bhutanese music includes a spectrum of subgenres, ranging from folk to religious song and music. Some genres of traditional Bhutanese music intertwine vocals, instrumentation, and theatre and dance, while others are mainly vocal or instrumental. The much older traditional genres are distinguished from modern popular music such as rigsar. Instruments Instruments used in both traditional and modern genres of Bhutanese music include the lingm (six-holed flute), the chiwang (Tibetan two-stringed fiddle), and the dramnyen (similar to a large three-stringed rebec); modern musicians often update these instruments for use in rigsar. Bhutan Broadcasting Service
The Bhutan Broadcasting Service (BBS, dz, འབྲུག་རྒྱང་བསྒྲགས་ལས་འཛིན) is the state-owned radio and television service in Bhutan. A public service corporation which is fully funded by the state and it is the only service to offer both radio and television to the kingdom, and is the only television service to broadcast from inside the Bhutanese border. The use of telecommunications is currently governed through the Information, Communications and Media Act of 2006. History For many years, Bhutan did not have modern telecommunications. Thimphu (; dz, ཐིམ་ཕུག ) is the capital city, capital and largest city of Bhutan. Lotay Tshering
Lotay Tshering ( dz, བློ་གྲོས་ཚེ་རིང་; born 10 May 1969) is a Bhutanese politician and surgeon who is the current Prime Minister of Bhutan, in office since 7 November 2018. He has also been the president of Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa since 14 May 2018. Early life and education Tshering was born on 10 May 1969, in a humble family. He hails from Dalukha village, Mewang Gewog, Thimpu. He received his early education from Punakha High School and graduated from Sherubtse College.
