Dr Eilidh Whiteford
Eilidh Whiteford (born 24 April 1969) is a Scottish National Party (SNP) politician who served as the Member of Parliament for Banff and Buchan from 2010–17. In the 2010–15 Parliament, she was the SNP's spokesperson for Women; for Fishing, Food and Rural Affairs; and for International Development. During the 2015–17 Parliament, she sat on the Scottish Affairs Select Committee and was the SNP's Westminster Spokesperson for Social Justice, Work and Pensions. Biography Whiteford was born in 1969 in Aberdeen and grew up in Macduff, Banffshire. She attended Banff Academy and has been active in the SNP since joining her local branch in 1986 during the run-up to Alex Salmond's election in 1987. She graduated from Glasgow University with First Class Honours in English and Scottish Literature, followed by postgraduate studies in Canada and Scotland that led to a PhD in 1998. Members Of The 1st Scottish Parliament
This is a list of members (MSPs) returned to the first Scottish Parliament at the 1999 Scottish Parliament election. Of the 129 members, 73 were elected from first past the post constituencies with a further 56 members being returned from eight regions, each electing seven MSPs as a form of mixed member proportional representation . Irene McGugan
Irene McGugan (born 1952) is a Scotland, Scottish politician. She was a Scottish National Party (SNP) Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for North East Scotland (Scottish Parliament electoral region), North East Scotland region from 1999 to 2003. In the 1999 Scottish Parliament election, 1999 election she stood as a constituency candidate in Aberdeen South (Scottish Parliament constituency), Aberdeen South, finishing fourth. However her number four position on the SNP North East Scotland list was enough to take her to Holyrood, Edinburgh, Holyrood. Ian Hudghton
Ian Stewart Hudghton (born 19 September 1951) is a Scottish National Party (SNP) politician who was President of the SNP from 2005 to 2020. He was a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for North East Scotland (1998–1999) and its successor constituency; Scotland from 1999 to 2019. Political career Hudghton joined the SNP in 1967. He was a District and Regional Councillor and the first elected leader of the unitary Angus Council after its foundation in 1995/6. He had some success as an election agent for John Swinney and Allan Macartney. He was first elected as a Member of the European Parliament in 1998, when he won his seat in a rare European Parliamentary by-election, after the death of sitting SNP MEP Allan Macartney. Allan Macartney
William John Allan Macartney (17 February 1941 – 25 August 1998) was a Scottish politician who served as a Scottish National Party MEP for the North East Scotland constituency between the 1994 European Parliament election and his sudden death from a heart attack in 1998. Early life Macartney was born in Accra, Gold Coast. He was the son of a Church of Scotland minister, his family soon returned to Scotland and he was schooled in Elgin, Moray. He studied at the universities of Tübingen and Marburg in Germany, and then at the universities of Edinburgh (graduating in Economic Science in 1962) and Glasgow. Upon completing his studies he returned to Africa as a voluntary secondary schoolteacher in eastern Nigeria (1963−1964). North East Scotland is one of the eight electoral regions of the Scottish Parliament which were created in 1999. Federation Of Student Nationalists
SNP Students (also known as the Federation of Student Nationalists) is the student wing of the Scottish National Party (SNP), representing students in Scottish higher education. It was formed in 1961 when various student organisations supportive of Scottish independence and the SNP in particular decided to join forces into a new constituent body.
