Downton Football Club is a football club based in Downton, near Salisbury, Wiltshire, England. Affiliated to the Wiltshire Football Association, they are currently members of the and play at the Brian Whitehead Sports Ground on Wick Lane. Downton, Wiltshire
Downton is a village and civil parish on the River Avon in southern Wiltshire, England, about southeast of the city of Salisbury. The parish is on the county boundary with Hampshire and is close to the New Forest; it includes the villages of Wick and Charlton-All-Saints, and the small ancient settlement of Witherington. The Trafalgar Park estate erased the former settlement of Standlynch. The parish church, Trafalgar House, and two more houses are Grade I listed. Downton village is on the east bank of the river. Wick lies on the opposite bank, and is linked to Charlton by the A338 Poole–Oxfordshire road, which accompanies the river north–south through the parish. 2005–06 Wessex Football League
The 2005–06 Wessex Football League was the 20th season of the Wessex Football League. The league champions for the second time in their history were Winchester City, who were promoted to the Southern League along with runners-up Thatcham Town and third-placed Andover. The extra promotions were because of the pyramid reorganisations that took place in 2006. There was a full programme of promotion and relegation between the three Wessex League divisions. Promotion from the lower divisions was largely based on ground grading, rather than league finishing positions. This was protested by Division Two champions Locks Heath and Division Three champions Paulsgrove, but the league stuck with their decision to promote lower-placed clubs with better facilities. The Football Association Challenge Vase, usually referred to as the FA Vase, is an annual football competition for teams playing in Steps 5 and 6 of the English National League System (or equivalently, tier 9 or 10 of the overall English football league system). For the 2017–18 season 619 entrants were accepted, with two qualifying rounds preceding the six proper rounds, semi-finals (played over two legs) and final to be played at Wembley Stadium. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871–72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association (The FA).
