Dov Weissglas
Dov Weissglas ( he, דב ויסגלס; born 4 October 1946) is an Israeli lawyer and businessman who was involved in the Middle East peace process during the term of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. Biography Dov Weissglas was born in Tel Aviv to an affluent family and grew up in Ramat Gan. After graduating from the Ohel Shem high school, he served in the Israel Defense Forces, and began studying law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem at age 19. Legal career After graduating with an LLB and interning at the Tel Aviv District Court, he received a law license in 1971. That same year, he began working at the Tel Aviv law firm Moritz & Margolis. In 1978, he became a partner in the firm, and together with Amir Almagor, he acquired the firm in 1984, becoming a senior partner. The firm subsequently became Moritz, Weissglas, Almagor & Co. The Israeli disengagement from Gaza ( he, תוכנית ההתנתקות, ') was the unilateral dismantling in 2005 of the 21 Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip and the evacuation of Israeli settlers and army from inside the Gaza Strip. Jonathan Jay Pollard (born August 7, 1954) is a former intelligence analyst for the United States government. In 1987, as part of a plea agreement, Pollard pleaded guilty to spying for and providing top-secret classified information to Israel. He was sentenced to life in prison for violations of the Espionage Act, making him the only American to receive a life sentence for passing classified information to an ally of the U.S. In defense of his actions, Pollard said that he committed espionage only because "the American intelligence establishment collectively endangered Israel's security by withholding crucial information". Rafael Eitan ( he, רפי איתן; 23 November 1926 – 23 March 2019) was an Israeli politician and intelligence officer. He also led Gil and served as Minister of Senior Citizens. He was in charge of the Mossad operation that led to the arrest of Adolf Eichmann. He served as an advisor on terrorism to Prime Minister Menachem Begin, and in 1981 he was appointed to head the Bureau of Scientific Relations, then an intelligence entity on par with Mossad, Aman and Shabak. Maccabiah Bridge Collapse
The Maccabiah bridge collapse was the catastrophic failure of a pedestrian bridge over the Yarkon River in Tel Aviv, Israel on July 14, 1997. The collapse of the temporary metal and wooden structure killed four and injured more than 60 Australian athletes and other team delegates who were visiting Israel to participate in the Maccabiah Games. One athlete died in the collapse and three died afterwards due to infections caused by exposure to the polluted river water. A subsequent investigation found that negligent shortcuts had been taken in the bridge's construction, mandatory permits and oversight had not been obtained, and the bridge's construction did not meet government requirements.
