Double Cross (1951 Film)
''Double Cross'' ( it, Il tradimento, also known as ''Treason'' and ''Passato che uccide'') is a 1951 Italian crime-melodrama film directed by Riccardo Freda and starring Amedeo Nazzari, Vittorio Gassman and Gianna Maria Canale. Plot The engineer Pietro Vanzelli is accused of killing Renato Salvi, his collaborator and suitor of his wife Clara who has always rejected him. During the trial no evidence arises in his defense and he is therefore convicted. After many years he gets out of jail and sets out in search of his family, he then learns that his wife had moved to Livorno with his daughter Luisa and on the train he accidentally runs into Renato who, when cornered, confesses to him the truth: after having stolen a lot of money from the company and after being rejected again by Clara he decided to disappear but at the same time blame Pietro for revenge. Riccardo Freda
Riccardo Freda (24 February 1909 – 20 December 1999) was an Italian film director. He worked in a variety of genres, including sword-and-sandal, horror film, horror, ''giallo'' and spy films. Freda began directing ''I Vampiri'' in 1956. The film became the first Italian sound film, sound horror film production. Biography Riccardo Freda was born in 1909 in Alexandria, Egypt to Italian parents. Freda attended school in Milan where he took art classes at the Centro Sperimantale. After school he took on work as a sculptor and art critic. Film career Freda first began working in the film industry in 1937 and directed his first film ''Don Cesare di Bazan'' in 1942. Freda began directing ''I Vampiri''. The lira (; plural lire) was the currency of Italy between 1861 and 2002. It was first introduced by the Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy in 1807 at par with the French franc, and was subsequently adopted by the different states that would eventually form the Kingdom of Italy in 1861. It was subdivided into 100 ''centesimi'' (singular: ''centesimo''), which means "hundredths" or "cents". The lira was also the currency of the Albanian Kingdom from 1941 to 1943. The term originates from ''libra'', the largest unit of the Carolingian monetary system used in Western Europe and elsewhere from the 8th to the 20th century. Attilio Dottesio (16 July 1909 – 12 February 1989) was an Italian film character actor and singer. He appeared in 170 films between 1940 and 1985. Born in Brescia, Dottesio began his career in France, where first he obtained some success as a pop singer and later debuted as an actor in the film ''The Pearls of the Crown'' directed by Sacha Guitry. Back in Italy, he attended the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome, then he began an intense career as a character actor. Anita Durante
Anita Durante (28 September 1897 – 2 May 1994) was an Italian actress. Born Anita Bianchi in Rome into a humble family, after attending a dramatic society for several years Durante made her official debut on stage in 1919, in Ettore Petrolini's ''Romani de Roma''. Married with the actor Checco Durante, she stayed with the Petrolini's stage company nine years, then she formed a company with her husband. Also active in films, where she is best remembered as the Alberto Sordi's mother in ''Un americano a Roma'', Durante was active on stage until 1992. She died in 1994, aged 96, following an accidental fall from the balcony of her home, while cleaning the windows.
