Dorseyville is an unincorporated community in Howard County, Maryland, United States. It is considered part of the modern Glenwood area. The village was situated along a fork in the rolling road that would service Annapolis or Tridelphia, Maryland. A stone dam, named Dorsey's Mill Dam, was situated on the Cattail Creek here before being washed out. Glenwood is an unincorporated community in Howard County, Maryland, United States. It is located between Baltimore and Washington, D.C., therefore attracting commuters to those employment centers. The community features acres of open space and is districted to Bushy Park Elementary, Glenwood and Folly Quarter Middle, and Glenelg High schools. Union Chapel was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and Round About Hills was added in 2008. The population in 2020 was approximately 3,416. The area was settled in the early 18th century by the Ridgley and Warfield families forming large tobacco plantations: "Bushy Park", " Longwood", "Ellerslie" and others. In 1822, James B. Matthews purchased a 200-acre farm and stone home from Caleb Dorsey. Roxbury Mill
Roxbury Mill is a historic flour and grist mill located in Glenwood, Howard County, Maryland, now part of the Howard County Farm Museum. The Roxbury Mill is located next to the Catt Tale (Cat Tail) river and with construction starting in 1753 by Capt. Philemon Dorsey Richard and John Dorsey settled plantations near the site in 1776. The -story stone mill with cellar was completed after 1791. It used an Oliver Evans licensed automated milling process that cost $20 at the time. Samuel Thomas paid $800 damages to Evans in April 1818 for using the technology without a license. In 1850, the mill owned by Allen Bowie Davis was in full production with two employees and one packer producing 125,000 lb of meal and 25,000 lb chop flour on three wheels. The Dorsey family sent slaves from Roxbury Mills in their place during the Civil War Draft. In 1874 it was sold to George Peddicord.
