Do Re Mi (Woody Guthrie Song)
"Do Re Mi" is a folk song by American songwriter Woody Guthrie. The song deals with the experiences and reception of Dust Bowl migrants when they arrive in California. "One song, 'Do Re Mi,' told about illegal roadblocks the Los Angeles police set up at the California border. The police refused entry to out-of-state travelers who didn't have jobs or enough 'do re mi' (money) to live on." It is known for having two guitar parts, both recorded by Guthrie. Background Written by Woody Guthrie, the song is included on his 1940 folk album ''Dust Bowl Ballads''. It takes the form of a warning to would-be migrants to stay where they are (places of origin mentioned include Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Georgia, and Tennessee). The argument is made on the basis that there are already too many migrants, and not enough money or work available to make the hardships and expense of the trip worthwhile. The message of the song parallels a theme of John Steinbeck's seminal novel ''The Grapes of Wrath' ...

Doremi Fasol Latido
''Doremi Fasol Latido'' is the third studio album by English space rock band Hawkwind. It was recorded at Rockfield Studios and released in 1972. It reached No. 14 on the UK album charts. New members The rhythm section of Dave Anderson and Terry Ollis was replaced by Lemmy and Simon King, both of whose style differed notably from their predecessors. This changed the band's overall musical direction. Lemmy was a self-confessed inept guitarist who used volume and stagecraft to cover his lack of ability. He became a bassist by accident after joining the band, thinking he was replacing Huw Lloyd-Langton. Lemmy said However, Dave Brock decided to play lead and continue without a second guitarist. Hawkwind's bass guitarist failed to turn up and Lemmy was available. He said: This led to Lemmy's very unorthodox technique. Lemmy stated:King's drumming was more square-beat and "rock" than the jazzier free-flowing Ollis. Sound and production Rockfield Studios was in its infancy and the ...

''Dough Re Mi'' was an American game show that aired on NBC from February 24, 1958, to December 30, 1960. The series was hosted by Gene Rayburn and was somewhat of an answer to CBS' ''Name That Tune'', which began in 1953. Among those who substituted for Rayburn during the run were Jack Barry (prior to the scandals pushing him out of television), announcer Roger Tuttle, Dayton Allen, Keefe Brasselle, and Fred Robbins. Game play Three contestants competed to identify song titles using the first few notes. Each game consisted of three songs worth $100, $300, and $500, respectively. The contestants were each given a $200 bankroll to start the game. In each round, each contestant was given one opportunity to guess the title of the song after the first three notes were played. If the song title was guessed correctly, the contestant won the value of the song. If nobody could identify the song, the fourth note was then put up for bid in a similar format to ''The Price is Right''. Eac ...

"Do-Re-Mi" is a show tune from the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical ''The Sound of Music''. Each syllable of the musical solfège system appears in the song's lyrics, sung on the pitch it names. Rodgers was helped in its creation by long-time arranger Trude Rittmann who devised the extended vocal sequence in the song. The tune finished at #88 in AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs survey of the top tunes in American cinema in 2004. Background Within the story of ''The Sound of Music'', it is used by the governess Maria to teach the solfège of the major musical scale to the Von Trapp children, who learn to sing for the first time. According to assistant conductor Peter Howard, the heart of the number — in which Maria assigns a musical tone to each child, like so many Swiss bell ringers — was devised in rehearsal by Rittmann (who was credited for choral arrangements) and choreographer Joe Layton. The fourteen note and tune lyric — 'when you know the notes to sing. ...
