Dora Yu
Dora Yu (; 1873–1931) was a prominent Chinese evangelist in China in the first part of 20th century. Biography Yu was trained in western medicine in Suzhou, which she practiced briefly. She also took her medical training for work in evangelism. As a Bible woman, Yu and Josephine Campbell in 1897 became the first two female medical missionaries from the Southern Methodist Church to do work in Korea. After working in Korea for six years, Yu returned to China and became a well-known revivalist preacher. She was invited to preach in many parts of China and, in 1927, spoke at the Keswick Convention in northern England. Her preaching was said to have had a great impact on many Chinese, who devoted their lives to Christian work. Bible Woman
In missions history, a Bible woman was a local woman who supported foreign female missionaries in their Christian evangelistic and social work. Background The title "Bible woman" was first used in London in connection with a female evangelist, Ellen Henrietta Ranyard, who put effort to reach sick and poor women in the poorest area of London in the mid-nineteenth century. Ranyard's heart was heavily burdened with the poor condition of women in St. Giles district that she decided to start an evangelistic work among them. Ranyard found a Christian woman who had a similar life as such and hired the woman to go with her to the poorest district in London to evangelize and help the sick women there. The woman who had the similar life as her recipients would freely visit the poor women and read the Bible to their hearings. Southern Methodist Church
The Southern Methodist Church is a conservative Protestant Christian denomination with churches located in the southern part of the United States. The church maintains headquarters in Orangeburg, South Carolina. The church was formed in 1940 by conservative members of the former Methodist Episcopal Church, South, which in 1939 had reunited with the Methodist Episcopal Church to form the Methodist Church, nearly 100 years after a split in 1844 that occurred due to divisions over slavery. In 2017, the Southern Methodist Church had approximately 85 churches and 3,200 members. Over 50% of the churches (47) are located in South Carolina. Church of Heavenly Peace (Chinese: 天安堂; Pinyin: ''Tiān'āntáng''; Foochow Romanized: ''Tiĕng-ăng-dòng''), also known as Church of Heavenly Rest or ''Tien Ang Tong'', is a Christian church in Fuzhou, China. Fuzhou (; , Fuzhounese: Hokchew, ''Hók-ciŭ''), alternately romanized as Foochow, is the capital and one of the largest cities in Fujian province, China. Along with the many counties of Ningde, those of Fuzhou are considered to constitute the Mindong (lit. Eastern Fujian) linguistic and cultural area. Watchman Nee
Watchman Nee, Ni Tuosheng, or Nee T'o-sheng (; November 4, 1903 – May 30, 1972), was a Chinese church leader and Christian teacher who worked in China during the 20th century. His evangelism was influenced by the Plymouth Brethren. In 1922, he initiated church meetings in Fuzhou that may be considered the beginning of the local churches. During his thirty years of ministry, Nee published many books expounding the Bible. He established churches throughout China and held many conferences to train Bible students and church workers. Following the Communist Revolution, Nee was persecuted and imprisoned for his faith and spent the last twenty years of his life in prison. He was honoured by Christopher H. Smith ( R– NJ) in the US Congress on July 30, 2009.
