Dora Holzhandler
Dora Holzhandler (22 March 1928 – 8 October 2015) was a French-born British painter based in London. Biography Dora Holzhandler was born to Jewish-Polish parents (Sehia Holzhandler, handbag maker and Ruchla Rocheman a singer and seamstress) in Paris, France, and came to live in London when she was six years old. In 1941 she moved to Suffolk with her mother and attended the West Suffolk County School in Bury St Edmunds. She painted in the naive style, influenced by Marc Chagall and Henri Matisse. Her work often incorporates repeated iconography, mystical and religious symbolism influenced by her personal beliefs. She was discovered by artist Victor Pasmore in 1947 and had her first exhibition in 1954. Her paintings are on display in the Museum of Modern Art in Glasgow and the Jewish Museum London. Nigel Kennedy
Nigel Kennedy (born 28 December 1956) is an English violinist and violist. His early career was primarily spent performing classical music, and he has since expanded into jazz, klezmer, and other music genres. Early life and background Kennedy's grandfather was Lauri Kennedy, principal cellist with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and his grandmother was Dorothy Kennedy, a pianist. Lauri and Dorothy Kennedy were Australian, while their son, the cellist John Kennedy, was born in England. After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music in London, at age 22, John joined the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, later becoming the principal cellist of Sir Thomas Beecham's Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Anglo-French Art Centre
The Anglo-French Art Centre (or Anglo-French Art School, previously the St John's Wood Art School, was an art school at 29 Elm Tree Road in St John's Wood, north London, England. The centre was founded in 1946 by Alfred Rozelaar Green, who studied in Paris at the Académie Julian and Atelier Gromaire before the Second World War. He moved to London at the end of the war and aimed to revolutionise British art education. He invited artists from France and other countries to exhibit and teach. Artists included Robert Couturier, Fernand Léger, André Lhote, Jean Lurçat, Agnès Capri and Germaine Richier. He was also supported by English artists who visited to give lectures, including Francis Bacon, Henry Moore, Victor Pasmore and Julian Trevelyan. Other lecturers included art critics and museum directors.
