Doop (song)
"Doop" is a song by Dutch Eurodance group Doop. It was released on 28 February 1994 as the first single from its debut album, ''Circus Doop'' (1994). The song achieved success in several countries, including Ireland and the US, where it hit number two on the ''Billboard'' Hot Dance Club Play chart. In addition, the song spent three weeks at the top of the charts in the United Kingdom. It consists of a Charleston-based big band number set against a house backing track. Two main versions (each with its own corresponding radio edit) were issued under the names of two different big bands, with the "Urge 2 Merge radio mix" combining sections of both. Doop are a dance music production duo from the Netherlands formed by Ferry Ridderhof and Peter Garnefski, who have also recorded under the name Hocus Pocus and various other project names. They were producers and band members of Peplab. In 2011, Doop released an EP called ''The Doop Eepee'', produced by Ferry Ridderhof, containing the single "My Chihuahua". Doop was best known for its eponymous single, "Doop", which reached No. 1 in the UK. James Masterton (born 2 September 1973) is a music writer and columnist, his work focusing on the UK Singles Chart having been an online fixture on various sites since the 1990s. Masterton is also a producer for talkSPORT, and has worked on air as a presenter at the Bradford independent local radio station the Pulse. Music writing Masterton began posting his weekly comments about the latest singles chart on Usenet in 1992, while a student at Lancaster University, whence he graduated in 1994. In 1995 he became an important element of BT's Dotmusic website, an online hub for the UK music scene and one of the few sites that posted the entire UK top 75 every week. VIVA (abbreviation for: translating to "Video Exploitation Facility") was a German free-to-air music television channel, first broadcast on 1 December 1993. The channel was intended to compete against MTV Europe and was the first German-language music TV channel, while MTV was only broadcast in English until the introduction of MTV Germany in 1997. It was also supposed to focus more on German music and pop culture while MTV only broadcast anglophone music by artists mostly from North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia.
