Donovan Anthony Matthews (born 29 October 1971) is a Guyanese-born cricketer who played for the Turks and Caicos Islands. Matthews was a right-handed batsman who fielded as a wicket-keeper. Matthews played a single Twenty20 match for the Turks and Caicos Islands against Montserrat in the 2008 Stanford 20/20 at the Stanford Cricket Ground. Montserrat Cricket Team
The Montserrat cricket team has represented the British Overseas Territory of Montserrat in cricket. The team is not a member of the International Cricket Council, but the Montserrat Cricket Association is a member of the Leeward Islands Cricket Association, which itself is a member association of the West Indies Cricket Board, and players from Montserrat generally represent the Leeward Islands cricket team at domestic level and the West Indies at international level. Montserrat has however played as a separate entity in matches which held Twenty20 status, but has not appeared in first-class or List A cricket. Shernyl Burns
Shernyl Curzohn Burns (born 11 October 1991) is a West Indian cricketer and sprinter. Burns is a right-handed batsman who bowls leg break googly. He was born on Montserrat, who he also represented in sprinting at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. In January 2008, Montserrat were invited to take part in the 2008 Stanford 20/20, whose matches held official Twenty20 status. Burns made his Twenty20 debut for Montserrat in their preliminary round match against the Turks and Caicos Islands. In the Turks and Caicos Islands innings of 67 for 9, Burns ran out both Donovan Matthews and Sabuton John. He wasn't required to bat in Montserrat's nine wicket victory. He made a second appearance in the following first round match against Nevis, ending Montserrat's unsuccessful chase of 186 unbeaten with a single run. Run out is a method of dismissal in cricket, governed by Law 38 of the Laws of Cricket. A run out usually occurs when the batsmen are attempting to run between the wickets, and the fielding team succeed in getting the ball to one wicket before a batsman has crossed the crease line near the wicket. Stanford Cricket Ground
The Coolidge Cricket Ground is a cricket ground in Osbourn, Saint George Parish, Antigua. It was previously known as the Airport Cricket Ground, before it was taken over by American businessman and cricket enthusiast Allen Stanford, rebuilt in 2004 and named the Stanford Cricket Ground. It was used as one of the many home grounds of the Leeward Islands and also hosted many Twenty20 matches, including both the 2006 & 2008 Stanford 20/20 tournaments and the 2008 Stanford Super Series. Stanford was convicted of fraud and multiple violations of US securities laws on 6 March 2012 and sentenced to 110 years in prison, and the stadium's name was changed to the Coolidge Cricket Ground in 2016-17 and it resumed staging cricket matches after an eight-year hiatus. Stanford 20/20
The Stanford 20/20 was a short-lived cricket tournament in the Caribbean island of Antigua. It was held first in July and August 2006 in the West Indies at the Stanford Cricket Ground, St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda, and then again in the same place in 2008. It was a variety of the popular Twenty20 format, which had been first introduced in English cricket in 2003. The tournament was separate to the Stanford Super Series, which was held in late 2008. The tournament was privately devised and funded by wealthy American businessman Allen Stanford, who held Antiguan dual nationality. Wicket-keeper
The wicket-keeper in the sport of cricket is the player on the fielding side who stands behind the wicket or stumps being watchful of the batsman and ready to take a catch, stump the batsman out and run out a batsman when occasion arises. The wicket-keeper is the only member of the fielding side permitted to wear gloves and external leg guards. The role of the keeper is governed by Law 27 of the Laws of Cricket. Demerara ( nl, Demerary, ) is a historical region in the Guianas, on the north coast of South America, now part of the country of Guyana. It was a colony of the Dutch West India Company between 1745 and 1792 and a colony of the Dutch state from 1792 until 1815. It was merged with Essequibo in 1812 by the British who took control. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out").
