Donnie Gillies
Donald George Gillies (born 20 June 1951) is a Scottish former footballer, who played initially as a forward but latterly as a right back. He made over 230 Football League appearances and 45 Scottish League appearances in the 1970s in the years after the Second World War. Career A product of the Scottish Highland Football League, Gillies first professional club was Inverness Clachnacuddin FC, of the Scottish Highland Football League. Gillies joined Greenock Morton in October 1971 and was twice top scorer. Alan Dicks signed Gillies for £30,000 in March 1973 from Morton for Bristol City. Steve Ritchie moved in the opposite direction to Morton. Gillies made his debut for Bristol City. Gillies joined his former "Robins" teammate, Terry Cooper then the manager, to Bristol Rovers for £50,000 in June 1980. Anglo-Scottish Cup
The Anglo-Scottish Cup was a tournament arranged for teams in the English and Scottish football leagues during the summer for several years during the 1970s. It was created in 1975 as a new incarnation of the Texaco Cup, with a similar format to its predecessor, but involving clubs from England and Scotland only. The competition made every attempt to maintain the status of a top-level tournament. Newcastle United were expelled from the 1976–77 competition for playing a weakened team in the first leg of their quarter-final against Ayr United. Over the years, however, English entrants were increasingly drawn from the lower divisions, and in 1981 the Scottish clubs withdrew as the public showed little interest in the competition. 1975–76 Football League
The 1975–76 season was the 77th completed season of The Football League. Liverpool won their first major trophy under Bob Paisley by narrowly winning the league title after heated competition from Queens Park Rangers. They also lifted the UEFA Cup for the second time in their history. Dave Sexton's QPR side failed to win their first-ever league title but still managed to finish in their highest ever position of runners-up and qualify for the UEFA Cup.
