Cypriot First Division
The Cypriot First Division ( el, Πρωτάθλημα Α΄ Κατηγορίας) is the top tier football league competition in Cyprus, run by the Cyprus Football Association. Since February 2016, it is sponsored by Cyta and is thus officially known as the Cyta Championship. The league is contested by 14 teams and runs from August to May, with the three lowest-placed teams being relegated to the Cypriot Second Division, and replaced by the top three teams in that division. The Cypriot Cup () is the main cup competition in Cypriot football, run by the Cyprus Football Association (CFA). It began in 1934, the same season with the Cypriot Championship. It is the second most important competition for Cypriot club teams after Cypriot Championship. Only the Cypriot First Division and the second division teams are participating in the competition. Cypriot Super Cup
The Cypriot Super Cup is a Cypriot football trophy, contested in an annual match between the previous season's Cypriot First Division champions, and the Cypriot Cup winners. The match is contested at the beginning of the football season, and is usually played at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia. The most successful team in the competition are Omonia, who have won the trophy on 17 occasions. The current holders are Apollon Limassol, who defeated Omonia 2–0 in the 2022 match. History The first match was played in 1951, under the name Pakkos Shield (Greek: Ασπίδα Πάκκου). The trophy was not awarded to the winner of the match, but would instead be awarded to the overall most successful team in the competition, after 10 matches. The Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium ( el, Στάδιο «Αντώνης Παπαδόπουλος») is a football stadium in Larnaca, Cyprus. With a current seating capacity of 10,230, it has been the home stadium of Anorthosis Famagusta since its completion in 1986. History The ground is the home of Anorthosis Famagusta. The ground bears the name of an Anorthosis benefactor. The initial capacity of the ground was about 6,000 but gradually increased during the years to 10,230. After a major recondition in 1997, capacity reduced to 10,230 (all seated). In 2005 the east stand was named the 'Quality Stand' after the club's main sponsor. Xisco Muñoz
Francisco Javier Muñoz Llompart (born 5 September 1980), known as Xisco, is a Spanish football manager and former player who played mainly a left winger. He is the current manager of Cypriot First Division club Anorthosis Famagusta. He played 194 matches and scored 20 goals over nine seasons in La Liga, spending four years at Betis, also representing Valencia, Tenerife, Recreativo and Levante and winning the 2004 UEFA Cup with Valencia. Starting in 2011, he played four seasons in Georgia with Dinamo Tbilisi. In 2019, Xisco rejoined Dinamo Tbilisi as part of the technical team, and in 2020 became the head coach of the club. GSE Stadium
The Evagoras Gymnastic Association Stadium (GSE Stadium) (Gymnastikos Syllogos Evagoras, Greek: Γυμναστικός Σύλλογος Ευαγόρας) is a football stadium located in Famagusta, Cyprus and was the home ground of Anorthosis and Nea Salamina. The stadium remains abandoned and in bad condition since 1974 when Turkey invaded the island of Cyprus and occupied 37.6% of it including the city of Famagusta. After the summer of 1974, Anorthosis used many football stadiums all around Cyprus like Dasaki Stadium, Aradippou Municipal Stadium, Paralimni Stadium, Tsirion Stadium, old GSZ Stadium, and new GSZ Stadium. In 1986, Anorthosis built its own stadium named Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium, located in Larnaca. The 1934–35 Cypriot First Division was the 1st season of the Cypriot top-level football league. Enosis Neon Trust won their 1st title. Format Eight teams participated in the 1934–35 Cypriot First Division. All teams played against each other twice, once at their home and once away. Olympiakos Nicosia ( el, Ολυμπιακός Λευκωσίας, ''Olympiakos Lefkosias'') is a football club based in Nicosia, Cyprus and competes in the Cypriot First Division. The club was founded in 1931, and is a founding member of the Cyprus Football Association. The club colors are black and green. Olympiakos' home ground is the Makario Stadium, which has a 16,000-seat capacity. The UEFA Europa Conference League (abbreviated as UECL) is an annual football club competition organised by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) for eligible European football clubs. Clubs qualify for the competition based on their performance in their national leagues and cup competitions. It is the third tier of active European club football competitions, after the Champions League and the Europa League. First contested in the 2021–22 season, the competition serves as the bottom level of the Europa League, which was reduced from 48 to 32 teams in the group stage. The 1934–35 Cypriot Cup was the first edition of the Cypriot Cup. A total of 8 clubs entered the competition. It began on 4 November 1934 with the quarterfinals and concluded on 25 November 1934 with the replay final which was held at GSP Stadium. Enosis Neon Trust won their 1st Cypriot Cup trophy after beating APOEL 1–0 in the final. Format In the 1934–35 Cypriot Cup, participated all the teams of the Cypriot First Division. The competition consisted of three knock-out rounds. In all rounds each tie was played as a single leg and was held at the home ground of the one of the two teams, according to the draw results. Each tie winner was qualifying to the next round. If a match was drawn, extra time was following. If extra time was drawn, there was a replay match.
