Donie Church
The Donie Church ( ro, Biserica Adormirea Maicii Domnului - Donie) is a Romanian Orthodox church located at 6 Maior Gheorghe Pastia Street in Focșani, Romania. It is dedicated to the Dormition of the Theotokos. The church is named after its ''ktetor'', a Captain Donie of the border guards. It is trefoil in shape, with an originally open porch, a narthex, nave and altar. The porch initially featured semicircular arches resting on round stone columns. The facades are divided into two registers by a row of bricks above the windows. The area under the roof is slightly profiled, and features a row of cloverleaf-shaped recesses painted with saints’ portraits. Romanian Orthodox
The Romanian Orthodox Church (ROC; ro, Biserica Ortodoxă Română, ), or Patriarchate of Romania, is an autocephalous Eastern Orthodox church in full communion with other Eastern Orthodox Christian churches, and one of the nine patriarchates in the Eastern Orthodox Church. Focșani (; yi, פֿאָקשאַן, Fokshan) is the capital city of Vrancea County in Romania on the banks the river Milcov, in the historical region of Moldavia. It has a population () of 79,315. Geography Focșani lies at the foot of the Curvature Carpathians, at a point of convergence for tectonic geologic faults, which raises the risk of earthquakes in the vicinity. Though Vrancea County is one of the most popular wine-producing regions in Romania, Odobești being just to the northwest, in Romania, Focșani itself is not considered a wine-producing center. Dormition Of The Theotokos
The Dormition of the Mother of God is a Great Feast of the Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and Eastern Catholic Churches (except the East Syriac churches). It celebrates the "falling asleep" (death) of Mary the ''Theotokos'' ("Mother of God", literally translated as ''God-bearer''), and her being taken up into heaven (bodily assumption). The narthex is an architectural element typical of early Christian and Byzantine basilicas and churches consisting of the entrance or lobby area, located at the west end of the nave, opposite the church's main altar.
