Doncaster Royal Infirmary is a district general hospital of 800 beds, located in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. It is managed by Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. History Early history Doncaster Royal Infirmary started life as the Doncaster Dispensary on French Gate (now Greyfriars Road) in 1792: the original two-storey building was erected at the cost of £665. This became the Doncaster General Infirmary and Dispensary in 1868 with 23 beds and the Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Dispensary in 1906. Plans for a new hospital were developed after the First World War and a three-day fund-raising bazaar was opened by Princess Christian in March 1922. However a long debate over the site of the new hospital ensued and, after pressure from colliery and railway companies, a site on Thorne Road was decided upon. Doncaster And Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was established in 2004. It runs services at Bassetlaw District General Hospital, Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Montagu Hospital and Retford Hospital, in Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire, England. The Trust issued a contract to the Co-operative Pharmacy for seven years for Doncaster Royal Infirmary’s accident and emergency, and outpatient departments in September 2011. A month later it decided to outsource laundry services as it was not able to invest the necessary capital to bring the service up to a satisfactory standard. In January 2017, the trust received Teaching status adding to its name. Mike Pinkerton resigned and Richard Parker took on the role as chief executive. The Tickhill Road Hospital is a small hospital at Tickhill Road in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. It is managed by the Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust. History The hospital was built by Adshead, Topham and Adshead as an isolation hospital between 1928 and 1929. The hospital wards are named after trees with names such as Ash, Elm and Pine Wards and, more recently, Hazel Ward. St Catherine's Hospital was a mental healthcare hospital located in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England, approximately from its centre. It is managed by Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust. History St Catherine's Hall was built for George Banks, a local industrialist and former Lord Mayor of Leeds, in 1839. After the last member of the Banks family died, the house was auctioned and acquired by the Ministry of Health for use as a psychiatric facility becoming known as St Catherine's Institution in 1928. After joining the National Health Service in 1948, the facility became St Catherine's Hospital in 1959. The hospital continued to provide mental health and learning disability services into 2010. Doncaster (, ) is a city in South Yorkshire, England. Named after the River Don, it is the administrative centre of the larger City of Doncaster. It is the second largest settlement in South Yorkshire after Sheffield. Doncaster is situated in the Don Valley on the western edge of the Humberhead Levels and east of the Pennines. At the 2021 census, the city had a population of 308,100, while its built-up area had a population of 158,141 at the 2011 census.
