Doncaster Panthers
{{cleanup, reason=no lead paragraph, no subheadings, disorganised article structure, date=March 2015 The Doncaster Panthers Basketball Club was established in 1954 by Morris Wordsworth and played out of Balby High School Gym in their formative years, then at various centres in Doncaster. Initially the team participated in an Anglo-American League based in a hangar on Doncaster Airport (where The Dome Leisure Centre is now) and the Sheffield and District League. In 1957, the Doncaster and District Basketball Association was formed with a League comprising seven teams. In 1960, the Panthers participated in an International Basketball Tournament in Dublin. In 1961 and 1964, the Panthers played exhibition matches against US Menwith Hill of Harrogate and RAF Bomber Command respectively in the Doncaster Corn Exchange (no mean feat) and in 1965 played against St. Germain in France being the start of many twinned basketball visits between the two towns. The Dome Leisure Centre
The Dome Leisure Centre is an arena and leisure centre in Doncaster, England, commonly referred to as ''The Dome'' or ''Doncaster Dome''. It has a swimming complex, bars, a sports arena that is also used as an event venue and the United Kingdom's first ever split level ice skating rink. Doncaster Corn Exchange
The Corn Exchange is a trading space and events venue in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. The structure, which was commissioned as a corn exchange, is part of a Grade II* listed complex. History The first corn exchange in Doncaster was a structure erected by Onions, Wheelhouse & Co at a cost of £900 and completed in 1844: it was a simple two-bay structure with iron columns supporting some girders and a pitched roof. In the late 1860s, civic leaders decided that the original structure was inadequate and should be replaced with a new structure: the site they selected was at the centre of the market hall in the Market Place which had been built to a "U"-shaped plan. Their intention was to use the new corn exchange to infill, and to project forward from, the "U" of the market hall. The foundation stone for the new corn exchange was laid by the mayor, Arthur J. Doncaster
Doncaster (, ) is a city in South Yorkshire, England. Named after the River Don, it is the administrative centre of the larger City of Doncaster. It is the second largest settlement in South Yorkshire after Sheffield. Doncaster is situated in the Don Valley on the western edge of the Humberhead Levels and east of the Pennines. British Basketball League
The British Basketball League (BBL) is a men's professional basketball league in Great Britain and represents the highest level of play in the countries. The league is contested by 10 teams from England and Scotland. There are no clubs however from Wales or Northern Ireland. The BBL runs three additional knockout competitions alongside the BBL Championship which are the BBL Cup, the BBL Trophy and the end-of-season BBL Play-offs. The BBL sits above the National Basketball League and the Scottish Basketball Championship which effectively form the second tier of British basketball. There is currently no automatic promotion or relegation between the English and Scottish leagues and the BBL because of the franchise system in use in the BBL although several clubs have been successful in making the step up from the EBL in recent years.
