Donald Zimmerman
Donald Wayne Zimmerman (born April 6, 1931) is an American former politician who served in the Kansas State Senate and Kansas House of Representatives as a Republican during the 1960s and 1970s. Kansas's 10th Senate district is one of 40 districts in the Kansas Senate. It has been represented by Republican Mike Thompson since his appointment in 2020 to replace fellow Republican Mary Pilcher-Cook. Geography District 10 is based in Shawnee in Johnson County, covering the vast majority of the city itself as well as Lake Quivira and parts of Overland Park, Bonner Springs, and Merriam. The district is located entirely within Kansas's 3rd congressional district, and overlaps with the 17th, 18th, 23rd, 24th, and 39th districts of the Kansas House of Representatives. John Frederick Vermillion (April 1, 1922–September 20, 2021) was an American politician and newspaper publisher who served in the Kansas House of Representatives and Kansas State Senate. Vermillion was born in Osawatomie, Kansas and moved with his family to Independence, Kansas in 1926. He earned an associate's degree and then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Olathe ( ) is the county seat of Johnson County, Kansas, United States. It is the fourth-most populous city in both the Kansas City metropolitan area and the state of Kansas, with a 2020 population of 141,290. History 19th century Olathe was founded by John T. Barton in the spring of 1857. He rode to the center of Johnson County, and staked two quarter sections of land as the town site. He later described his ride to friends: "...the prairie was covered with verbena and other wild flowers. I kept thinking the land was beautiful and that I should name the town Beautiful."
