Don Loney
Donald John Loney (November 16, 1923 – June 19, 2004) was a professional Canadian football centre and football coach. He was called the "Father of Maritime Football" by ''The Globe and Mail'' for his work as a coach at St. Francis Xavier University and his contributions to developing the Vanier Cup as a national championship. Playing career After graduating from North Carolina State University, he played for the Ottawa Combines and the St. Hyacinthe-Donnacona Navy before serving in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II. Post-war, he resumed his career and played nine seasons as a centre in Canadian football with the Montreal Hornets (1945), Toronto Argonauts (1946), Ottawa Rough Riders (1947–1952) and Calgary Stampeders (1954), meriting four East all-star selections and the Jeff Russel Memorial Trophy as East MVP in 1950, a rare feat for a player at his position. Jewett Trophy
The Jewett Trophy is a Canadian sports trophy, in honour of Dr. B. L. Jewett, presented annually to the winner of the Atlantic University Sport Football Conference of U Sports. Unlike the other three conference championship games, the game in which this trophy is awarded is not named for the trophy itself; it is known as the Loney Bowl. The winner of the Jewett Trophy goes on to play in either the Uteck Bowl or the Mitchell Bowl, depending on annual rotations. Canadian Football Hall Of Fame
The Canadian Football Hall of Fame (CFHOF) is a not-for-profit corporation, located in Hamilton, Ontario, that celebrates great achievements in Canadian football. It is maintained by the Canadian Football League (CFL). It includes displays about the CFL, Canadian university football and Canadian junior football history. The Hall previously had a main feature in the central portion of the museum where inducted members, each with a metal bust depicting their head, were displayed prior to the physical building being closed. There were also featured displays that highlight each CFL team's history, and an interactive Field goal kicking exhibit. The CFHOF is currently changing to a de-centralized model, which does not included a main museum building (see "Today" below). Canada's Sports Hall of Fame (french: Panthéon des sports canadiens; sometimes referred to as the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame) is a Canadian sports hall of fame and museum in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Dedicated to the history of sports in Canada, it serves as a hall of fame and museum for accomplished Canadian athletes, and sports builders and officials.
