Don Laidlaw
Donald Hope Laidlaw LL.B., B.Litt.(Oxon) (6 August 1923 – 14 April 2009) was a lawyer, businessman and politician in the State of South Australia. He was born to Mr. and Mrs. Lyndley Hope Laidlaw of Victoria Avenue, Unley Park, and educated at St. Peter's College, then studied Law and Literature at Adelaide University and Magdalen College, Oxford. He was called to the Bar in 1948. During World War II he served in the AIF. Intelligence Corps as a Japanese interpreter. Laidlaw was elected as a Liberal candidate to the Legislative Council in July 1975 and served until November 1982. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the 1989 Australia Day Honours for "service to secondary industry, the South Australian Parliament and to the community". South Australia

Diana Laidlaw
Diana Vivienne Laidlaw (born 1951), commonly referred to as Di Laidlaw, is a former Australian Liberal politician. She was a member of the South Australian Legislative Council (1982–2003) and held several ministerial posts. Early life Laidlaw was born in London, the daughter of Don Laidlaw and Vivienne Laidlaw (née Perry), both law graduates of the University of Adelaide. Her grandfather was the founder of Perry Engineering. Political career Her early political career was as an assistant to state and federal politicians before being elected to the Legislative Council in 1982. She entered cabinet in 1993 when the Brown government (1993-1996) came to power in the 1993 election, where she remained under the subsequent Olsen (1996-2001) and Kerin (2001-2002) governments, after which the Liberals lost power with the election of the Rann government. Frank Tennyson Perry
Sir Frank Tennyson Perry (4 February 1887 – 20 October 1965) was an industrialist and politician in the State of South Australia. History Frank was born in Gawler, South Australia a son of Isaiah Perry and nephew of Samuel Perry, founder of Perry Engineering. He started working for his uncle in 1903, and was made manager of the newly acquired Gawler workshops of Martin & Co., in 1915; he became works manager of the Mile End factory around 1918, and on his uncle's death inherited, and greatly expanded the business, both at Mile End and Whyalla. He was a founder of the Australian Metal Industries Association, and a member of the South Australian Chamber of Manufactures, and president of the Metal Trades Association. Perry Engineering
Perry Engineering was a major foundry and steel engineering works in the state of South Australia. History Perry Engineering had its origins in 1899 when Samuel Perry purchased from the estate of James Wedlock the Cornwall Foundry on Hindley Street, renaming it the Victoria Foundry. He leased or purchased a nearby property on North Terrace and there established a bridge and girder factory. He purchased a large block of land at Mile End with potential for a private railway siding and around 1911 established the factory there, by 1916 it was known as Perry Engineering. In 1915, Perry purchased the James Martin & Co Phoenix Foundry works in Gawler from the estate of the owner Henry Dutton of Anlaby. Bennett & Fisher, Limited was a South Australian business, for many years one of Australia's major live stock salesmen, wool and produce brokers, and land and insurance agents. History Stock and cattle salesman and auctioneer Gabriel Bennett and accountant Benjamin Fisher went into partnership in July 1889, in Bennett's office in Currie Street, Adelaide. Fisher retired from active involvement with the business c. 1910. Soon they had outgrown their offices and moved to Bowman Buildings, King William Street.
