Don Grashey
Dominic Michael Guarasci (November 1, 1925 – September 12, 2005), better known as Don Grashey, was a songwriter and music producer, best known as the owner of Zero Records. Early life Grashey was born in 1925 in Port Arthur, Ontario (now known as Thunder Bay). As a teenager Grashey first dabbled as a songwriter, teaming up with singer Jim Amadeo (aka Buddy DeVal). Together they struggled for more than a decade trying to get a foothold in a music industry that was still in its infancy, especially in Canada, so most of their efforts were directed to record companies and publishing houses in the U.S. Producing career In the late 1950s, Grashey met Chuck Williams in Thunder Bay, and the pair moved to Vancouver where with the financial help of Norm Burley, a retired lumber industry executive, and Art Phillips (who would later become Mayor of Vancouver), they formed Zero Records. Zero Records
Zero Records was a record label founded in 1959 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. History In the late 1950’s, Don Grashey met Charlie Chuck Williams (Chuck) in Thunder Bay. The pair later moved to Vancouver. With the financial help of Norm Burley (the majority owner) and Art Phillips, who would later become Mayor of Vancouver, Zero Records was formed. The company's intended market from the beginning was the United States. Grashey would run the business as President, the A&R Department and the publishing company Trilite Music. Grashey would run the business as he saw fit, sign the acts he wanted to sign and record and promote them without interference from any of the other shareholders. Speedy West
Wesley Webb West (January 25, 1924 – November 15, 2003), better known as Speedy West, was an American pedal steel guitarist and record producer. He frequently played with Jimmy Bryant, both in their own duo and as part of the regular Capitol Records backing band for Tennessee Ernie Ford and many others. The duo also recorded with non-Capitol artists in Los Angeles. In 1960, Speedy played on and produced Loretta Lynn's first single. West, who began playing a pedal steel guitar built by Paul A. The Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) was founded in 1976 as the Academy of Country Music Entertainment to organize, promote and develop a Canadian country music industry. The groundwork for the association began on June 3rd, 1973 when a group of twelve entertainers, promoters and radio personalities met at The Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, Ontario and formed a Board of Directors to help promote Canadian content. The group included Jury Krytiuk, president of Boot Records, Bod Dalton, a promotor, Sean Eyre, DJ Lindsay, radio personality Harold Moon who worked for BMI Records, Jack Starr of The Horseshoe Tavern, Barry Haugen of RCA Records, Vic Folliott of Brantford Radio, Mary Butterill of CAPAC Publishing and Ben Kerr who was a prominent promoter and Brent Williams, a notable country and bluegrass entertainer. Canadian Country Music Hall Of Fame
The Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame honours Canadian country music artists, builders or broadcasters, living or deceased. The artifact collection includes extensive biographical information on the inductees. It is located in downtown Merritt, British Columbia at 2025 Quilchena Avenue. The facility is open year-round for custom tours, and is open to the public on seasonally adjusted hours. The initiative is governed by a not-for-profit society (the Canadian Country Music Heritage Society). In 2009, Cantos Music Foundation (now the National Music Centre) in Calgary, Alberta, became the owner of the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame's artifact collection after a transfer of ownership from Deb Buck, wife of deceased Hall of Fame member Gary Buck. Jerry Palmer is a retired automotive designer. Career Palmer graduated from the College for Creative Studies in 1966, and immediately started working for General Motors' design studios. He was appointed chief designer at Chevrolet III Studio in 1974, later being promoted to GM's Advance Design division in 1986, director of the Thousand Oaks Advance Concept Centre in 1990, and finally executive director of design. The Browns
The Browns were an United States, American country music, country and folk music vocal trio best known for their 1959 Grammy-nominated hit, "The Three Bells". The group, composed of Jim Ed Brown and his sisters Maxine Brown (country singer), Maxine and Bonnie Brown (musician), Bonnie, had a close, smooth harmony characteristic of the Nashville sound, though their music also combined elements of folk song, folk and pop music, pop. They disbanded in 1967 and were elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in March 2015. Jim Reeves
James Travis Reeves (August 20, 1923July 31, 1964) was an American country and popular music singer-songwriter. With records charting from the 1950s to the 1980s, he became well known as a practitioner of the Nashville Sound. Known as "Gentleman Jim", his songs continued to chart for years after his death in a plane crash. He is a member of both the Country Music and Texas Country Music Halls of Fame.
