Dominica competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games have been postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thea Noeliva LaFond (born April 5, 1994) is a triple jumper from Dominica. Career She competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the women's triple jump; her result of 12.82 meters in the qualifying round did not qualify her for the final. She was also selected to represent Dominica at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. During the 2022 Commonwealth Games, she improved her result and achieved a Silver Medal in the women's triple jump event. During the 2018 Commonwealth Games, she created history for becoming the first Dominican athlete to win a medal for Dominica at the Commonwealth Games after securing a bronze medal in the women's triple jump event. Dennick Luke
Dennick Luke (born 28 January 2001) is a Dominican middle-distance runner. In 2022 he became the national record holder over 800 metres. Career Dennick was selected to compete at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the 800 metres. He was also given the honour of being the flag bearer for his nation in the opening ceremony. In the race itself, Luke finished eighth in his qualifying heat after falling to the ground after being clipped by another athlete. He finished in a time of 1.54:30. His personal best on 800 m, is also the national record. He ran 1:48.22 at the National Stadium, Kingston, Jamaica on 11 June 2022 breaking the 11 year-old record of Erison Hurtault who ran 1:48.60 in 2011. Athletics at the 2020 Summer Olympics were held during the last ten days of the Games. They were due to be held from 31 July – 9 August 2020, at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo, Japan. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the games were postponed to 2021, with the track and field events set for 30 July – 8 August. The sport of athletics at these Games was split into three distinct sets of events: track and field events, remaining in Tokyo, and road running events and racewalking events, moved to Sapporo. A total of 48 events were held, one more than in 2016, with the addition of a mixed relay event. The men's 800 metres event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place between 31 July and 4 August 2021 at the Japan National Stadium. In total 48 athletes were to start, but only 47 (from 29 nations) actually did. Emmanuel Korir of Kenya won the event, with his countryman Ferguson Rotich taking silver. It was the fourth consecutive victory in the men's 800 metres for Kenya. Patryk Dobek earned bronze, giving Poland its first medal in the event. Athletics At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Women's Triple Jump
The women's triple jump event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place between 30 July and 1 August 2021 at the Japan National Stadium. The event was won by Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela: Her winning jump of 15.67 meters also broke the 26-year-old world record. Summary On the second jump of the competition, the overwhelming favorite, Yulimar Rojas opened equalling the third best jump of her career, 15.41 m, which was also the fourth best jump in history, and an Olympic record. Patrícia Mamona followed her with a personal best 14.91 m to move into silver position. Liadagmis Povea jumped 14.70 m to get into third position.
