Domenico Luca Capozi
Domenico Luca Capozi (; 9 March 1899 – 30 December 1991) was an Italian Catholic missionary prelate and archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Taiyuan from 1940 to 1983. Biography Domenico Luca Capozi was born in Pofi Pofi is a ''comune'' (municipality) of about 4,200 inhabitants in the province of Frosinone in the Italian region Lazio, located about southeast of Rome and about southeast of Frosinone. Pofi borders the following municipalities: Arnara, Castro ..., Frosinone, Kingdom of Italy, on 9 March 1899. He joined the Franciscans in 1915. He was ordained a priest on 8 August 1926. That same year, he came to China to preach. On 12 January 1940, he was appointed vicar apostolic of Taiyuanfu, and became archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Taiyuan on 11 April 1946. Benedict Bonaventura Zhang Xin (; 23 October 1911 – 10 September 1999) was a Chinese Catholic priest and bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Taiyuan from 1981 to 1994. Biography Zhang was born in Taiyuan, Shanxi, on 23 October 1911. He joined the Order of Friars Minor in 1931. He was ordained a priest in 1937. He graduated from Fu Jen Catholic University Fu Jen Catholic University (FJU, FJCU or Fu Jen; or ) is a private Catholic university in Xinzhuang, New Taipei City, Taiwan. The university was founded in 1925 in Beijing at the request of Pope Pius XI and re-established in Taiwan in 1961 at .... During the ten-year Cultural Revolution, Zhang was sent to the May Seventh Cadre Schools to do farm works. In 1981, Zhang was consecrated as bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Taiyuan by Joseph Zong Huaide, the zhen president of the Catholic Patriotic Association. He retired in 1994. Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Taiyuan () is a Roman Catholic church located in Xinghualing District of Taiyuan, Shanxi, China. It serves as the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Taiyuan. History The original church was built in Taiyuan in 1635 by Belgian Jesuit Jin Mige (), during the Ming dynasty (1368–1644). It was confiscated during the reign of Yongzheng Emperor of the Qing dynasty (1644–1911). The church was rebuilt in 1870 by Bishop Luigi Moccagatta. In 1900, the Taiyuan massacre broke out, 45 Christian missionaries and village Christians were killed by local government, and the church was devastated by the Boxer Rebellion. In 2000, 26 deadly saints in Taiyuan diocese were canonized as Chinese saints by Pope John Paul II. A restoration of the entire church complex was carried out in 1902 by Bishop Agapito Fioretii, and was completed in 1905.
