Dolderbahn
The Dolderbahn (Db or DBZ) is a long rack railway in the Swiss city of Zürich. The line is in Zürich's Hottingen and Fluntern suburbs on the south slope of the Adlisberg mountain. The lower terminus of the line is at ''Römerhof'', some from the city centre, where it connects with lines 3 and 8 of the Zürich tramway. The upper terminus at ''Bergstation Dolderbahn'' is adjacent to the Dolder Grand Hotel and the Dolder recreation area. Two intermediate stations, at ''Titlisstrasse'' and ''Waldhaus Dolder'', are also served. The line is owned by the ''Dolderbahn-Betriebs AG'', which is itself 50% owned by the city of Zürich, and is operated on their behalf by the municipal transport operator ''Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich''. Trams In Zürich
Trams make an important contribution to public transport in the city of Zürich in Switzerland. Adlisberg
Adlisberg, with an elevation of , is a wooded mountain in Switzerland overlooking Zürichsee (Lake Zürich) to the northwest near the Zürichberg. Geography Adlisberg mountain is located to the east of the city of Zürich, between the Glatt river valley and Lake Zürich. Its highest point is about above the Lake Zürich. The mountain range is part of a chain of hills — among them Käferberg, Forch and Pfannenstiel — between Greifensee (Lake Greifen) and Lake Zürich. On the southern and western flanks of the Adlisberg are located the Zürich quarters Hottingen, Hirslanden and Witikon. Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich (VBZ) is a public transport operator in the Swiss city of Zürich, and is wholly owned by the city. Previously known as the Städtische Strassenbahn Zürich (StStZ), the organisation was founded in 1896 and adopted its current name in 1950. The VBZ owns and operates trams, trolleybuses, buses, and a funicular. It also operates, but does not own, a further funicular, a rack railway, and the Stadtbahn Glattal light rail system. All of VBZ's passenger services are operated within the tariff and ticketing system provided by the cantonal public transport authority Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV). Dolder Grand
The Dolder Grand (formerly known as Grand Hotel Dolder) is a 5 star superior hotel in the Swiss city of Zürich. It is located on Adlisberg hill, some from, and above, the city centre. Built in 1899, the hotel spreads out over and offers 173 rooms and suites, two restaurants, a bar, 13 conference rooms and a spa. The hotel is connected to central Zurich by road, and by the Dolderbahn rack railway, which has its upper terminus next to the hotel complex. History The Dolder Grand Hotel & Curhaus was built between 1897 and 1899, to a design by the architect for the restaurateur Heinrich Hürlimann. Hürlimann had previously developed the nearby Dolder Waldhaus hotel, also designed by Gros, and the Dolderbahn to serve it. The Dolder Grand opened on 10 May 1899, and was extended in 1924 and 1964. Zürcher Verkehrsverbund
The ZVV (German abbreviation for Zürcher Verkehrsverbund, translated into English as Zürich Transport Network or Zürich Traffic Network) is a public transportation system. It combines rail, bus, tram, trolleybus, lake boat, cable car and other services in the Swiss canton of Zürich (and including Rapperswil-Jona (SG), Pfäffikon SZ and spots outside of the canton) integrating them into a single fare network with coordinated timetables. Fares are based on the number of zones crossed during a specified time and are independent of the mode of transport or the number of connections.
