Dobbertin is a municipality in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. An important sight is Dobbertin Abbey. The municipality is situated in a landscape with many lakes and woods. It stands on the largest lake in the area, the Dobbertiner See. Dobbertin Abbey
Dobbertin Abbey (''Kloster Dobbertin'') is a former Benedictine monastery of monks, afterwards housed a community of nuns, and later still a women's collegiate foundation, located in the municipality of Dobbertin near Goldberg in the district of Ludwigslust-Parchim in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It stands on a spit of land in the Dobbertiner See and includes the only church with two towers in Mecklenburg. History The abbey was founded during the Christianisation of Germany in about 1220 by Prince Heinrich Borwin II of Mecklenburg and was the first field monastery in Mecklenburg. The founder gave it to the Benedictines for a community of monks. 15 years later it was turned into a Benedictine nunnery. In 1549 the Landtag at Sagsdorf Bridge near Sternberg resolved to introduce the Lutheran Reformation into Mecklenburg. Ludwigslust-Parchim is a district in the west of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It is bordered by (clockwise starting from the west) the state Schleswig-Holstein, the district Nordwestmecklenburg, the district-free city Schwerin, the districts Rostock and Mecklenburgische Seenplatte and the states Brandenburg and Lower Saxony. Christa Merten
Christa Merten (née Basche; 14 October 1944, Dobbertin, Germany – 1 July 1986, Marbella, Spain), was a West German athlete and Olympian who competed for West Germany in the 1960s and 70s in the 800, 1500 and 3000 meter runs and in cross country running. She committed suicide in 1986. On July 31, 1971, she set a world record in Lübeck with Ellen Tittel, Sylvia Schenk, and Hildegard Falck in the 800 meter relay. Merten started the 1500 meter run at the 1972 Summer Olympics and the 800 meter run at the 1971 European Athletics Championships, but failed to reach the finals. She won the silver medal with the relay in the 2000m medley relay with Elfgard Schittenhelm, and with a time of 5:01.1 minutes at the 1970 European Athletics Indoor Championships. At the 1972 European Athletics Indoor Championships, she earned fourth place at the 800 meter dash. Rainer Podlesch
Rainer Podlesch (born 4 November 1944) is a retired German cyclist who was active between 1966 and 1983. He won a silver medal at the 1968 Summer Olympics in the 4000 m team pursuit. In this event he competed for the West Germany team in the preliminaries, but was replaced in the final due to injury. At the next Olympics he took part in the 100 km team time trial and finished in 20th place. He also won eight medals at the UCI Motor-paced World Championships in 1971–1983, including two gold medals in 1978 and 1983. His son Carsten Podlesch Carsten Podlesch (born 6 September 1969 in Berlin) is a German Motor-paced racing, stayer and the World Champion in motor-paced racing.
