History The first title match in this division was in 1980, when the World Boxing Council responded to pressure from Asian and Latin American members who felt the difference between the flyweight limit and the bantamweight limit was too significant. Rafael Orono won the inaugural title in February of that year by defeating Lee Seung-hoon (boxer), Seung-Hoon Lee. This is a list of WBC world champions, showing every world champion certificated by the World Boxing Council (WBC). The WBC is one of the four major governing bodies in professional boxing, and certifies world champions in 18 different weight class (boxing), weight classes. In 1963, the year of its foundation, the WBC inaugurated titles in all divisions with the exception of light flyweight, super flyweight, super bantamweight, super middleweight, cruiserweight (boxing), cruiserweight and bridgerweight, which were inaugurated in the subsequent decades. Carlos Roberto Cuadras Quiroa (born August 24, 1988) is a Mexican professional boxer who held the WBC super flyweight title from 2014 to 2016. As an amateur he won a gold medal in the bantamweight division at the 2007 Pan American Games. Amateur career Cuadras won the gold medal at the 2007 PanAmerican Games by beating local James Pereira and winning the final against Dominican southpaw Claudio Marrero 15-11. At the 2007 World Amateur Boxing Championships he lost to Joe Murray: 19-28. Professional career In February 2010, Cuadras knocked out Oswaldo Rodriguez to win the WBC Youth Intercontinental Super Flyweight Championship at the Poliforum Zamná in Mérida, Yucatán.
