Diving At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Men's 3 Metre Springboard
The men's 3 metre springboard diving competition at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo was held in 2021 at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. It was the 26th appearance of the event, which has been held at every Olympic Games since the 1908 Summer Olympics. Competition format The competition was held in three rounds: * Preliminary round: All divers perform six dives; the top 18 divers advance to the semi-final. * Semi-final: The scores of the preliminary round are erased. The 18 remaining divers perform six dives each, and the top 12 divers advance to the final. * Final: The semi-final scores are erased. The 12 final divers perform six dives each, and the top three divers win the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively. Within each round of six dives, at least one dive must be from each of the five groups (forward, back, reverse, inward, and twisting). Xie Siyi (; born 28 March 1996) is a Chinese diver. He has won four gold medals at the World Championships and two Olympic gold medals. Career Xie's previous main event was 10m platform and his partner was Chen Aisen. However, due to a serious injury in 2012, he began focusing more on springboard. At the 2015 World Aquatics Championships, he became a new world champion after winning the gold medal of 1m springboard. He also won a gold in 3m springboard at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships held in Budapest. In 2018, Xie took part in his first World Cup event held in Wuhan, and won a gold in the 3m synchro partnered with Cao Yuan, as well as a gold in the individual 3m event. James Philip Heatly (born 20 May 1997) is a British diver. Career In 2015, at the inaugural European Games held in Baku where the diving events are for juniors only, he won a gold in the 3 metre springboard, a bronze in the 1 metre springboard, as well as a silver in the men's synchronised 3 metre springboard with Ross Haslam. Oleh Kolodiy ( uk, Олег Колодій; born 16 March 1993) is a Ukrainian diver. Career He began diving at age 12 in Mykolayiv. His coach is Larisa Afanasyeva since then. He debuted internationally in 2012 at FINA Diving Grand Prix. Patrick Hausding (born 9 March 1989) is a German diver. At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, with his teammate Lars Rüdiger, Hausding won a bronze medal in the men's synchronized 3 metre springboard competition.
