Districts Of Turku
The city of Turku, Finland is divided into nine wards (''see Wards of Turku''), which in turn are divided into 78 non-governmental districts ( in Finnish, in Swedish). These are composed of individual suburbs, and in the very centre of the city, sectors of the central business district are identified by Roman numerals. This is a list of the districts in Turku in alphabetical order, grouped by wards. The names are given first in Finnish, and then in Swedish (if applicable) in brackets. For districts that have an English name, it is given first with other languages following. When a district is divided between two or three wards, it is listed under each and this is indicated by a footnote. Turku
Turku ( ; ; sv, Åbo, ) is a city and former capital on the southwest coast of Finland at the mouth of the Aura River, in the region of Finland Proper (''Varsinais-Suomi'') and the former Turku and Pori Province (''Turun ja Porin lääni''; 1634–1997). The region was originally called Suomi (Finland), which later became the name for the whole country. As of 31 March 2021, the population of Turku was 194,244 making it the sixth largest city in Finland after Helsinki, Espoo, Tampere, Vantaa and Oulu. There were 281,108 inhabitants living in the Turku Central Locality, ranking it as the third largest urban area in Finland after the Capital Region area and Tampere Central Locality. V District, Turku
The V District, also known as Itäranta (Finnish; ''Öststranden'' in Swedish, meaning 'east bank'), is one of the central districts of Turku, Finland. As its name suggests, it is located on the east side of the river Aura, and stretches from the IV District (''Martti'') all the way to the mouth of the river. The district is strongly associated with the sea - it neighbours the Port of Turku across the river, and its street names have a ship-related theme. Pohjola () is a district of the city of Turku, in Finland. It is located to the north of the city centre, between ''Ratapihankatu'' and Kähäri. Pitkämäki (Finnish; ''Långbacka'' in Swedish) is a district of the city of Turku, in Finland. It is located in the southeast of the city, and consists of several residential suburbs and industrial area. Pitkämäki is the only district in Turku to be divided among three different wards: the industrial area belongs to the City Centre ward, the high-density residential area of Suikkila to Kuninkoja, and the low-density residential area of Muhkuri to Naantalintie. Pihlajaniemi (Finnish; ''Rönnudden'' in Swedish) is a district of the city of Turku, in Finland. It is located to the south of the city centre, on the coastline of the Archipelago Sea. Pihlajaniemi shares the new luxurious residential development of Majakkaranta with the neighbouring district of Korppolaismäki. It is located to the southeast of the city centre, bordering on the city centre's II and III districts, as well as Kupittaa. The Turku City Hospital is located in Kurjenmäki. Kupittaa
Kupittaa ( sv, Kuppis) is a district in Turku, Finland. It is located on the eastern side of the city's centre, around the Kupittaa Park, the first landscaped park in a Finnish city. The district serves as a centre for recreation and business. Turku has recently planned a residential area for 750 residents on the premises of a former HKScan sausage factory. The area hosts, among other things, numerous sports facilities, such as the Veritas Stadion, a Finnish baseball stadium, a velodrome, a bowling alley, a skateboarding area and a BMX track, and the Kupittaa open-air swimming pools. The ice hockey arena in the district was demolished in 2005. A new one was inaugurated in November 2006. Most of the Turku Science Park business centre is located in Kupittaa. It is located to the south of the city centre, on the eastern side of the mouth of the river Aura. The district shares the new luxurious residential area of Majakkaranta with the neighbouring district of Pihlajaniemi. Iso-Heikkilä (Finnish; ''Storheikkilä'' in Swedish) is a district of the city of Turku, in Finland. It is located to the west of the city centre, bordering on the city centre's VIII District (Port Arthur). The current () population of Iso-Heikkilä is 1,905, and it is decreasing at an annual rate of 0.79%. Only 4.57% of the district's population is under 15 years old, while 35.17% are over 65. The IX District, also known as Länsiranta (Finnish; ''Väststranden'' in Swedish, meaning 'west bank'), is one of the central districts of Turku, Finland. As its alias suggests, it is located on the west side of the river Aura, between the ''Kakola'' hill in the neighbouring VIII District (''Port Arthur'').
