District School Board Of Niagara
The District School Board of Niagara (DSBN, known as English-language Public District School Board No. 22 prior to 1999) is a school board in the public school system of Ontario, Canada, in the Regional Municipality of Niagara. Its head office is in St. Catharines. The DSBN operates schools in each of the twelve municipalities in the region. It employs close to 2,500 instructional staff to teach over 43,000 students in 97 elementary schools and 18 secondary schools. As of 2018, it was considered the top employer by number of employees in the Niagara Region. DSBN offers high school level courses online through Desire2Learn (D2L). The board was created on January 1, 1998, as a result of the amalgamation of the Lincoln County Board of Education serving the boundaries of the former Lincoln County, and the Niagara South Board of Education which served the boundaries of the former Welland County. Thorold
Thorold is a city in Ontario, Canada, located on the Niagara Escarpment. It is also the seat of the Regional Municipality of Niagara. The Welland Canal passes through the city, featuring lock 7 and the Twin Flight Locks. History The first survey of Thorold, or Township 9 as it was known then, occurred in 1788. The earliest communities in what is now Thorold emerged at Beaverdams, DeCew Falls and St. Johns but, after the opening of the First Welland Canal in 1829, they were superseded by the new canal villages of Thorold, Allanburg and Port Robinson. In 1846, the community had a population of about 1,000 and there were three churches or chapels and a post office. Various types of tradesmen worked here. Industry included two grist mills, a cement mill, a brewery and three wagon makers. There were seven taverns. Beamsville District Secondary School was a secondary school in Beamsville, Ontario, Canada and was operated by the District School Board of Niagara (DSBN). History BDSS had established a long tradition of excellence dating back to 1888, when the very first classes were conducted. Grimsby Secondary School
Grimsby Secondary School (GSS) was a secondary school in Grimsby, Ontario, Canada. Operated by the District School Board of Niagara (DSBN), it has a student body of approximately 700 year-to-year. Due to construction delays of the West Niagara Secondary School, the 2022-2023 school year will still take place in the GSS building, but under the new name. Planned closure On March 28, 2017, the District School Board of Niagara voted in favour of a motion to close three high schools, including Grimsby Secondary School, in favour of a single large high school to be constructed at 5699 King Street in Beamsville. Under the current plan, Grimsby Secondary School will close in 2022 following the 2021–2022 school year, and the new amalgamated high school, named West Niagara Secondary School, will open in September 2022. Grimsby is a town on Lake Ontario in the Niagara Region, Ontario, Canada. Grimsby is at the eastern end of the Hamilton Census Metropolitan Area. It is named after the English fishing town of Grimsby in north-east Lincolnshire.
