Distell
Distell Group Limited, commonly referred to as Distell, was a multinational brewing and beverage company, based in South Africa. On April 26, 2023, Distell was acquired by Heineken. After that, its operations were integrated into Heineken Beverages, a company created by the merger of its South African unit, Distell, and the African brewery acquired by the Dutch multinational Namibia Breweries. Heineken Beverages Holdings Limited, formerly known as Sunside Acquisitions Limited, is a special-purpose vehicle set up by Heineken to house its Southern and Eastern African assets alongside the bulk of the Distell business. History On 15 November 2021, Heineken announced a plan to acquire part of Distell Group business, in order to become the market-leading alcoholic beverage supplier in South Africa. Through the deal, Heineken and Remgro aimed to spin off a bulk of Distell's business to Sunside Acquisitions Ltd. As part of the transaction, Heineken agreed to merge its investments in Heineken South Africa, Namibia Breweries and operations in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Sudan into the new entity. Bunnahabhain Distillery
Bunnahabhain distillery (, ) was founded in 1881 near Port Askaig on Islay and is owned by the Scotch whisky producer Distell Group Limited a subsidiary of Heineken N.V,. The village of Bunnahabhain was founded to house its workers. History The Bunnahabhain is one of the milder single malt Islay whiskies available and its taste varies greatly from other spirits to be found on the island of Islay, off the west coast of Scotland. Initially the distillery was owned by the Islay Distillery Company, but in 1887 it was taken over by the Highland Distilleries Company. The earliest records of the use of electricity on Islay are from 1894 when the Bunnahabhain Distillery was provided with electric light. Originally the distillery was supplied by ship, but in 1960 a road was built to the distillery. The last delivery by ship was in 1993. Bain's Cape Mountain is a South African brand of whisky distilled at the James Sedgwick distillery in Wellington, Western Cape (Drakenstein Local Municipality). Launched in 2009, Bain's is South Africa's first whisky produced from a single grain, being made from 100% South African-grown yellow maize (corn). William Charles Winshaw
William Charles Winshaw (1871-1968), was an American physician who created Stellenbosch Farmer's Winery (SFW) in South Africa in 1935. He was born in Kentucky, USA on 21 November 1871 and died in South Africa on 11 March 1968. He also co-owned the Oude Libertas vineyard there and produced Lieberstein, a dry white wine. He was married to Ada Charlotte (Day) and Susan Valerie SFW merged with Distillers Corporation on December 4, 2000 to form Distell Group Limited. Anton Rupert
Anthony Edward Rupert OMSG (4 October 1916 – 18 January 2006) was a South African businessman and conservationist. He was born on 4 October, 1916 and raised in the small town of Graaff-Reinet in the Eastern Cape Province of the Union of South Africa. He studied in Pretoria and ultimately moved to Stellenbosch, where he established the Rembrandt Group and where it still has its headquarters today. He died in his sleep at his home in Thibault Street, Stellenbosch at the age of 89. Amarula
Amarula is a cream liqueur from South Africa. It is made with sugar, cream and the fruit of the African marula tree (''Sclerocarya birrea'') which is also locally called the elephant tree or the marriage tree. It has an alcohol content of 17% by volume (34 proof). It has had some success at international spirit ratings competitions, winning a gold medal at the 2009 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
