Discovery Wings (UK)
Discovery Wings was a British TV channel devoted to documentaries regarding aircraft and as a brand extension of '' Wings'', a staple documentary programme of the Discovery Channel throughout the 1990s. In the United States it has been replaced by the Military Channel, which still has a large portion of its programming dedicated to military aviation. The channel timeshared with Discovery Kids. It later ceased broadcasting on 28 February 2007. The channel initially began broadcasting exclusively on the On Digital service time sharing with Discovery Kids, also created initially as an On Digital exclusive. The channel eventually became available on other digital platforms such as Sky Digital, and Virgin Media. In the UK, Discovery Wings was axed in favour of a new channel called Discovery Turbo, on 1 March 2007 whose remit was widened to include also programmes related to speed and all motor vehicles. Discovery Real Time was a British television channel owned by Discovery Networks UK focused on educational and learning content. History It was originally launched on 9 March 1992 as The Learning Channel, United Kingdom's version of the American television network of the same name as a daytime service from Intelsat, mostly aimed at cable systems, and was initially broadcast on the Discovery Channel's frequency. When the Discovery Channel launched on Astra satellite on 22 July 1993, it didn't initially carry TLC in the daytime. From 5 September 1994, it shared a transponder on the Astra 1C satellite with the Discovery Channel, which started its broadcasts at 4.00pm. Discovery Home & Health (UK & Ireland)
Discovery Home & Health was a British and Irish television satellite and cable channel. It was launched on 1 July 2000 as part of the Discovery Channel's bouquet of channels, as Discovery Health, following a similar format to the American channel of the same name. It was rebranded on 7 May 2005 to its current name, and relaunched as a female oriented lifestyle channel. This coincided with the relaunch of Discovery Home & Leisure as Discovery Real Time, a male oriented channel. On 30 April 2013, Discovery Home & Health received a new look, following the closure of Discovery Real Time and Discovery Travel & Living, and began broadcasting in widescreen, the last of Discovery's UK channels to do so.
