Dingo Beach, Queensland
Dingo Beach is a coastal rural locality in the Whitsunday Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Dingo Beach had a population of 169 people. Geography The Coral Sea forms the northern boundary of the locality. Along the coast are (from west to east): * Shoal Bay, at the north-west of the locality () * Black Currant Island, a marine island () * Dingo Beach (the beach) () * Manta Ray Island, a marine island () * Nelly Bay, at the north-east of the locality () History In 1926, the growing use of automobiles enabled people to travel more widely and resulted in the "discovery" of the beach by motorist J. M. Harkness and it was named Dingo Beach. People from Proserpine and Bowen then began using the beach for recreation, although the road was described as being very rough. Despite this, the beach became a popular camping and holiday place for people living in Proserpine and Bowen. It officially became a town in 1966 but is no longer gazetted as a town today. The Whitsunday Region is a local government area located in North Queensland, Australia. Proserpine State High School (established in 1963) is a public high school in the town of Proserpine in Queensland, Australia. History Campus The school was established in 1963. Since then, several buildings have been refurbished and a number of new structures have been erected but the school still retains a lot of its original façades and layout. Bowen is a coastal town and locality in the Whitsunday Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Bowen had a population of 10,377 people. The locality contains two other towns: * Heronvale () * Merinda (). The Abbot Point coal shipping port is also within the locality (). Geography Bowen is located on the north-east coast in North Queensland, at exactly twenty degrees south of the equator. Bowen is halfway between Townsville and Mackay, and by road from Brisbane. Bowen sits on a square peninsula, with the Coral Sea to the north, east, and south. To the south-east is Port Denison and Edgecumbe Bay. Proserpine () is a rural town and locality in the Whitsunday Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Proserpine had a population of 3,562 people. Geography Proserpine is situated on the Bruce Highway. Proserpine is located on the North Coast line with Proserpine railway station located in Hinschen Street in the town centre. The town is located along the banks of the Proserpine River and is immediately surrounded by floodplains used for sugarcane and cattle farming.
