''Dillinger'' is a 1991 television film directed by Rupert Wainwright and starring Mark Harmon as John Dillinger. It was first broadcast as ''The ABC Sunday Night Movie'' for January 6, 1991. Plot The film is based on the actual events of the pursuit of American bank robber John Dillinger during the 1930s. Rupert Wainwright
Rupert Wainwright is an English film and television director, with credits including ''Blank Check'' (1994), ''The Sadness of Sex'' (1995) and ''Stigmata'' (1999). He is also a music video producer and multiple award-winner. British-born, Wainwright was one of the youngest directors accepted in the Discovery Program sponsored by Columbia Pictures. He established a reputation for making award-winning television advertisements (including Reebok) and music videos (most notably M.C. Hammer). John "Red" Hamilton
John "Red" Hamilton (August 27, 1899 April 26, 1934) was a Canadian criminal and bank robber active in the 1920s–1930s, most notably as an associate of John Dillinger. He is best known for his lingering death and secret burial after being mortally wounded during a robbery. Early life Little is known of John Hamilton's life prior to his criminal career. Melvin Horace Purvis II (October 24, 1903 – February 29, 1960) was an American law enforcement official and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent. Harry "Pete" Pierpont (October 13, 1902 – October 17, 1934) was a Prohibition era gangster, convicted murderer and bank robber. He was a friend and mentor to John Dillinger. Mary Evelyn "Billie" Frechette (September 15, 1907 – January 13, 1969) was an American Menominee singer, waitress, convict, and lecturer known for her personal relationship with the bank robber John Dillinger in the early 1930s.
