Dikulushi Copper Mine
The Dikulushi mine is a copper and silver mine in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is located some west of Lake Mweru and north of Kilwa in the Moero Sector of Pweto Territory, Katanga Province. The leading DRC copper company Anvil Mining brought the site into production in October 2002 with some 10% Community Trust involvement. The mine has a total of 481,000 tonnes of proven mineral reserves and over 650,000 estimated. While the mine was operational, heavy trucks carrying concentrate crossed Lake Mweru on a large motorised pontoon ferry from Kilwa to Nchelenge, a distance of , from where they drove to a copper smelter in Tsumeb, Namibia. In October 2004 there was a small-scale uprising in Kilwa which was brutally suppressed by FARDC soldiers of the 62nd Brigade. Lake Mweru
Lake Mweru (also spelled ''Mwelu'', ''Mwero'') is a freshwater lake on the longest arm of Africa's second-longest river, the Congo. Located on the border between Zambia and Democratic Republic of the Congo, it makes up of the total length of the Congo, lying between its Luapula River (upstream) and Luvua River (downstream) segments.Google Earth accessed 29 March 2007. Kapulo Mine
The Kapulo mine is a cassiterite mine and a planned copper mine in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is located near a village of the same name. In 2007 one of the two remaining full FARDC brigades in Katanga was stationed in Pweto Territory. This brigade, the 62nd, was illegally exploiting the Cassiterite mine in Kapulo. The ore is exported through the Musosa, Moba Territory border crossing into Zambia, bypassing customs posts. The Australian mining company Mawson West acquired the rights to a copper mine in the area from Anvil Mining in May 2010. The ore deposit is on the eastern edge the Katanga sedimentary basin, and is north of the main copper belt in the Kundelungu Plateau zone. Kinsevere is an open pit mine and Heavy Media Separation plant with an electric arc furnace formerly operated by Anvil Mining, and now operated by Minerals and Metals Group. It is located north of Lubumbashi, Katanga Province, Democratic Republic of Congo. Kinsevere is in the Kipushi Territory in Katanga province. There are three deposits: Central Pit, Mashi and Kinsevere Hill. These are mostly stratiform deposits in alternating dolomitic and terrigenous formations. FARDC
The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (french: Forces armées de la république démocratique du Congo [FARDC]) is the armed forces, state organisation responsible for defending the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The FARDC was rebuilt patchily as part of the peace process which followed the end of the Second Congo War in July 2003. The majority of FARDC members are land forces, but it also has a small air force and an even smaller navy. In 2010–2011 the three services may have numbered between 144,000 and 159,000 personnel.
