Dignity Movement
The Dignity Movement ( ar, تيار الكرامة, translit=Tayyār al-Karāma), formerly known as the Arab Liberation Party ( ar, links=no, حزب التحرر العربي), is a Lebanese political party with considerable support in the city of Tripoli (Trablos), North Lebanon. Its membership is mainly Sunni Muslim. Once led by former Prime Minister Omar Karami, the current head of the party is Faisal Karami, son of Omar Karami. In the 2018 Lebanese general election, Faisal Karami and Jihad Al-Samad were elected as a members of parliament for Tripoli on the "National Dignity" list. Another candidate from the list, Taha Naji, was narrowly defeated by Dima Jamali of the Future Movement, a result that was invalidated by the Constitutional Council. Jamali regained the seat in a by-election in May 2019. Arab nationalism ( ar, القومية العربية, al-Qawmīya al-ʿArabīya) is a nationalist ideology that asserts the Arabs are a nation and promotes the unity of Arab people, celebrating the glories of Arab civilization, the language and literature of the Arabs, and calling for rejuvenation and political union in the Arab world. 2018 Lebanese General Election
General elections were held in Lebanon on 6 May 2018. Although originally scheduled for 2013, the election was postponed three times in 2013, 2014 and 2017 under various pretexts, including the security situation, the failure of the Parliament to elect a new President, and the technical requirements of holding an election. A new electoral law adopted in 2017 provides a proportional representation system for the first time. Political Parties In Lebanon
Lebanon has over 90 political parties. Since 2005, and after the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafic Hariri, the political scene has become very polarised, with most major political parties and movements becoming part of one of two big rival alliances, the March 8 Alliance mainly led by Hezbollah, Free Patriotic Movement, Amal Movement, Tayyar Al Marada and the Tashnaq and on the opposing side, the March 14 Alliance.The name "14th March alliance", dates back to the Cedar Revolution which had as its goal an end to the Syrian military occupation. North II
North II ( ar, دائرة الشمال الثانية) is an electoral district in Lebanon, as per the 2017 vote law. The district elects 11 members of the Lebanese National Assembly - 8 Sunni, 1 Alawite, 1 Greek Orthodox and 1 Maronite. The constituency contains three 'minor districts', Tripoli (corresponding to Tripoli District), Miniyeh and Danniyeh (the latter two corresponding to the Miniyeh-Danniyeh District). The Tripoli 'minor district' elects 5 Sunnis, 1 Alawite, 1 Greek Orthodox and 1 Maronite parliamentarian, the Miniyeh 'minor district' elects 1 Sunni and the Danniyeh 'minor district' elects 2 Sunni parliamentarians. 2022 Lebanese General Election
The 2022 Lebanese general election is the upcoming general election in Lebanon, scheduled for 15 May 2022. Background 2019–21 protests Large-scale anti-government demonstrations ignited in the country from 17 October. Future Movement
The Future Movement ( ar, تيار المستقبل) is a Lebanese political party affiliated with the Sunni sect. The party was founded as a coalition in 1995 led by Rafic Hariri but was officially founded in 2007. The party is led by Saad Hariri. The party is the largest member of the March 14 Alliance, which governed Lebanon from 2005 to 2018 except for the period 2011–2013. The coalition lost its majority in the 2018 parliamentary elections. In mid-October 2019, a popular protest movement began calling for increased accountability and transparency in politics. On 29 October, Chairman Hariri offered his resignation as a concession, saying "This is in response to the will and demand of the thousands of Lebanese demanding change". Sunni Islam () is the largest branch of Islam, followed by 85–90% of the world's Muslims. Its name comes from the word '' Sunnah'', referring to the tradition of Muhammad.
