Werner Egk
Werner Egk (, 17 May 1901 – 10 July 1983), born Werner Joseph Mayer, was a German composer. Early career He was born in the Swabian town of Auchsesheim, today part of Donauwörth, Germany. His family, of Catholic peasant stock, moved to Augsburg when Egk was six. He studied at a Benedictine Gymnasium (academic high school) and entered the municipal conservatory. Egk demonstrated talents as a composer, graphic artist, and writer, and he moved first to Frankfurt to improve his piano talents and then, in 1921, to Munich. There, working as a theater composer and playing in the pit, he married Elizabeth Karl, a violinist. He derived his pen name "Egk" from his wife's initials: ''Elisabeth, Karl'' (Elisabeth, née Karl). Ludwig Strecker Jr
Ludwig Strecker Jr., also Ludwig Strecker der Jüngere, (13 January 188315 September 1978) was a German music publisher, and an author of opera librettos which he wrote under the pen name Ludwig Andersen. He authored, and published through the Schott publishing house, two of the most successful German contemporary operas of the 1930s, Egk's ''Die Zaubergeige'' and Reutter's '' Doktor Johannes Faust''. Life Born Ludwig Emanuel Strecker in Mainz, he was interested in poetry and literature early in life. He studied law at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and the University of Leipzig, where he obtained his doctorate in 1906. After a stay abroad, Strecker became co-owner of the Schott music publishing house in Mainz in 1909, which his father Ludwig Strecker had inherited from in 1874. Frankfurt Opera
The Oper Frankfurt (Frankfurt Opera) is a German opera company based in Frankfurt. Opera in Frankfurt am Main has a long tradition, with many world premieres such as Franz Shrek's ''Der ferne Klang'' in 1912, '' Fennimore und Gerda'' by Frederick Delius in 1919, and Carl Orff's ''Carmina Burana'' in 1937. Franz Pocci
Count Franz Graf von Pocci (7 March 1807 – 7 May 1876) was a significant official in the court of King Ludwig the First of Bavaria, best known as the founding director of the Munich Marionette Theatre where he was a shadow puppeteer and wrote countless puppet plays and children's stories. Pocci, in collaboration with Josef Schmid, founded the Munich Marionette Theatre in Munich, Bavaria, Germany in 1855. He hired the premises, drew stage curtains and designs, and wrote pieces for the hero of Schmid's shows, Kasperl Larifari, a descendant of Hans Wurst and all the classical comic figures in traditional European puppetry. This collaboration was highly influential and is credited with inspiring the formation of other theaters, most notably the Salzburg Marionettes under Anton Aicher in 1913 in Salzburg, Bavaria, and the Toelz Marionette Theater. Marcel Cordes (born Kurt Schumacher, 11 March 1920 – 26 November 1992) was a German baritone in opera and concert. He was regarded as a leading baritone of German origin for Italian opera in the 1950s and 1960s. He appeared at major opera houses in Europe, and made recordings of complete operas and excerpts, including in 1956 the first complete recording of Carl Orff's ''Die Kluge''. Erika Köth (15 September 1925 in Darmstadt – 20 February 1989 in Speyer) was a German operatic high coloratura soprano, particularly associated with the roles of Ariadne auf Naxos, Zerbinetta and Don Giovanni, Zerlina. Köth began a musical studies in Darmstadt with Elsa Blank in 1942, and after an interruption resumed them in 1945. Elisabeth Lindermeier
Elisabeth Lindermeier (also Elisabeth Kempe-Lindermeier; 17 February 1923 – 19 February 1998) was a German operatic soprano. A member of the Bavarian State Opera, she performed internationally, including at the Royal Opera House in London in the English premiere of ''Die Liebe der Danae'' by Richard Strauss. Gottlob Frick
Gottlob Frick (28 July 1906 in Ölbronn-Dürrn – 18 August 1994 in Muhlacker) was a German operatic bass. He was known for his wide repertory including Wagner and Mozart roles, as well as those of Nicolai and Lortzing. Career Frick's teachers included Fritz Windgassen (father and teacher of Frick’s contemporary, the tenor Wolfgang Windgassen). He was a member of the chorus at the Stuttgart State Opera from 1927 to 1934. His first solo role was in Coburg in 1934–35,Opera. June 1954, p339 followed by Freiburg (1936–40) and Königsberg (1938) where Karl Böhm discovered him and engaged him for the Dresden State Opera in 1941, which was his base for the following decade.
