''Die große Chance'' ("The Big Chance") is an Austrian talent television show, originally aired between 1980 and 1990, then revived in 2011. Background ''Die große Chance'' was originally broadcast by the Österreichischen Rundfunk (Austrian Broadcasting Corporation) showing on prime time between 1980 and 1990. Peter Rapp hosted the show from 1980 to 1988. Thomas Klock took over in 1988 and Elisabeth Engstler in 1989 and 1990. The programme was discontinued in 1991. 2011-present: Revival ''Die große Chance'' was revived as a competitive talent show starting 2011. It was broadcast on Austrian television ORF eins. The first season broadcast between 9 September and 11 November 2011 was won by singer Christine Hödl in 2011, with Valerian Kapeller as runner-up and Magic Acrobatics third. ORF 1 (''ORF eins'') is an Austrian public television channel owned by ORF. It was the first television channel in Austria, started in 1955. ORF 1 is one of four public TV channels in Austria. 2014 Eurovision Song Contest
The Eurovision Song Contest 2014 was the 59th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, following the country's victory at the with the song "Only Teardrops" by Emmelie de Forest. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR), the contest was held at B&W Hallerne, and consisted of two semi-finals on 6 and 8 May, and a final on 10 May 2014. Conchita Wurst
Thomas Neuwirth (born 6 November 1988) is an Austrian singer and drag queen who is known for his stage persona Conchita Wurst (or simply Conchita). Neuwirth came to international attention after winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 as with the song "Rise Like a Phoenix". Neuwirth has stated that he is not a trans woman. He is gay, and has also described himself as a drag queen. He uses she/her pronouns to describe his Conchita Wurst character, but he/him pronouns when referring to himself. The Steirische Harmonika () is a type of bisonoric diatonic button accordion important to the alpine folk music of Croatia (Hrvatsko zagorje), Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Austria, the German state of Bavaria, and the Italian South Tyrol. The Steirische Harmonika is distinguished from other diatonic button accordions by its typically richer bass notes, and by the presence of one key per scale row that has the same tone on both compression and expansion of the bellows, called a ''Gleichton''. The bass notes earn the distinction '' Helikonbässe'' because they use bigger reeds with duralumin reed frames and a special chamber construction that amplifies its bass tones to give it a loud sound reminiscent of a Helicon tuba.
