' (''The Csárdás Princess''; translated into English as ''The Riviera Girl'' and ''The Gipsy Princess'') is an operetta in 3 acts by Hungarian composer Emmerich Kálmán, with libretto by Leo Stein and Bela Jenbach. It premiered in Vienna at the on 17 November 1915. Numerous film versions and recordings have been made. The operetta is widely beloved across Europe, particularly in Hungary, Austria, Germany, and the former Soviet Union, where it was adapted into a popular film. It is arguably Kálmán's most successful work. Yvonne Kenny AM (born 25 November 1950) is an Australian soprano, particularly associated with Handel, Mozart and bel canto roles. Biography Born in Sydney, she first studied at the University of Sydney in science, hoping to become a biochemist, but decided to pursue a career in music instead. She studied first with Myra Lambert at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and later won a scholarship to study at the opera school at La Scala in Milan. Mojca Erdmann (born 29 December 1975) is a German soprano who is particularly associated with the Mozart operas. She created the role of Ariadne in Rihm's ''Dionysos'' at the Salzburg Festival. Career Born in Hamburg, Erdmann sang in the children's chorus of the Hamburg State Opera together with her brother. As a teenager she began studying singing seriously with soprano Evelyn Herlitzius before entering the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln where she was a pupil of Hans Sotin and studied with soprano Ingrid Figur. Richard Bonynge
Richard Alan Bonynge ( ) (born 29 September 1930) is an Australian conductor and pianist. He is the widower of Australian dramatic coloratura soprano Dame Joan Sutherland. Bonynge conducted virtually all of Sutherland's operatic performances from 1962 until her retirement in 1990. Biography Bonynge was born in Epping, a suburb of Sydney, and educated at Sydney Boys' High School before studying piano at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and gaining a scholarship to the Royal College of Music in London, where his piano teacher was Herbert Fryer. Wolfgang Anheisser (1 December 1929 – 5 January 1974) was a German operatic baritone. He was the leading baritone at the Cologne Opera from 1964 until his tragic death on stage there ten years later, where he covered the major roles for his voice part. From 1968, he was simultaneously a member of the Berlin State Opera in East Berlin. He appeared internationally, taking part in a world premiere at the Salzburg Festival and singing throughout Europe and beyond. Harry Gustaf Nikolai Gädda, known professionally as Nicolai Gedda (11 July 1925 – 8 January 2017), was a Swedish operatic tenor. Debuting in 1951, Gedda had a long and successful career in opera until the age of 77 in June 2003, when he made his final operatic recording. Anneliese Rothenberger (19 June 191924 May 2010) was a German operatic soprano who had an active international performance career which spanned from 1942 to 1983. She specialized in the lyric coloratura soprano repertoire, and was particularly admired for her interpretations of the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Richard Strauss. Gunhard Mattes
Gohard or Gunhard was a 9th-century bishop of Nantes, lord of Blain, saint and cephalophore martyr of the Roman Catholic Church. Gohard was born in Angers. It was during his episcopate that the Battle of Blain took place in 843 AD, the first major battle between the Franks and the Britons. Damage caused by struggles between these two factions in the area was compounded by Viking raids. On the feast day of St. John the Baptist, a month after the defeat of Blain, the Vikings arrived at Nantes. Gohard was celebrating Mass in Nantes Cathedral before a large audience when the Vikings attacked, killing the priest and his congregation. Legend says that Gohard picked up his decapitated head and walked down to the Loire where a boat took him to Angers.
