Egon Wellesz
Egon Joseph Wellesz CBE (21 October 1885 – 9 November 1974) was an Austrian, later British composer, teacher and musicologist, notable particularly in the field of Byzantine music. Early life and education in Vienna Egon Joseph Wellesz was born on October 21, 1885 in the Schottengasse district of Vienna to Samú Wellesz and Ilona Wellesz (née Lovenyi). Although his parent met and married in Vienna, they both originated from Hungary and came from Jewish families in that nation. His parents, while ethnically Hungarian Jews, were both practicing Christians in Vienna and Wellesz received a Protestant upbringing. He later converted to Catholicism. As a boy he attended the Franz Josephs Gymnasium on Hegel Street where he received a classical education in Greek and Latin. The Bacchae
''The Bacchae'' (; grc-gre, Βάκχαι, ''Bakchai''; also known as ''The Bacchantes'' ) is an ancient Greek tragedy, written by the Athenian playwright Euripides during his final years in Macedonia, at the court of Archelaus I of Macedon. It premiered posthumously at the Theatre of Dionysus in 405 BC as part of a tetralogy that also included ''Iphigeneia at Aulis'' and ''Alcmaeon in Corinth'', and which Euripides' son or nephew is assumed to have directed. It won first prize in the City Dionysia festival competition. The tragedy is based on the Greek myth of King Pentheus of Thebes and his mother Agave, and their punishment by the god Dionysus (who is Pentheus's cousin). Thomas Mohr (tenor)
Thomas Mohr (born 17 October 1961) is a German operatic tenor and academic voice teacher. He began his career as a baritone, but moved on to heldentenor and has performed roles in all tenor parts of Wagner's ''Der Ring des Nibelungen'' at '' Der Ring in Minden''. He has appeared at major international opera houses and concert halls, and made recordings. Mohr is a professor of voice at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen. He also runs an agricultural estate where he founded a music festival. Harald Stamm
Harald Stamm (born 29 April 1938) is a German opera singer (Bass (voice type), bass) and voice teacher. Life and career Born in Frankfurt, Stamm grew up in Bingen am Rhein. After the Abitur at the local Stefan-George-Gymnasium and subsequent sport studies, he worked as a teacher and took private singing lessons with Franz Fehringer. After his graduation Stamm had engagements on the stages of Gelsenkirchen (1968), Kassel and Cologne. In 1973 he became a permanent member of the ensemble of the Hamburgische Staatsoper. In 1979 he achieved his international breakthrough with Sarastro from ''The Magic Flute,'' his signature role, at the Metropolitan Opera. She began her career as a lyric soprano in 1975 and spent the next three decades performing principal roles with opera houses internationally. Gerd Albrecht (19 July 1935 – 2 February 2014) was a German conductor. Biography Albrecht was born in Essen, the son of the musicologist Hans Albrecht (1902–1961). He studied music in Kiel and in Hamburg, where his teachers included Wilhelm Brückner-Rüggeberg. He was a first-prize winner at the International Besançon Competition for Young Conductors at age 22. His first post was as a repetiteur at the Stuttgart State Opera. Later, he became Senior Kapellmeister at the Staatstheater Mainz, and '' Generalmusikdirektor'' in Lübeck.
